Unfortunately, you may be out of luck. :( The newer 64-bit operating systems have trouble running the older programs that were designed for 32 or 16-bit platforms. You can try this however: open control panel, click on 'Programs', then click on 'Use an older program with this version of windows', follow the prompts and be sure to choose "I want to use the program in the CD drive". Good luck!

I have an older version of the guide and cannot install it on Vista

The problem with upgraded operating systems and software is the software has compatibility issues.
The only solution short of upgrading your software is to try using windows compatibility mode.
Assuming this program is auto run when the cd is inserted. exit installation.if program previously installed go to control panel-programs and features and remove; If not previously installed, with the cd inserted go to your cd/dvd rom drive in my computer, Usually D drive possibly E drive. Do a RIGHT click and choose explore. Once this has opened, once again right click on Setup.exe and go to properties.
Once there go to tab at top that says compatability and click it.
Check the box that says run this program in (drop Box) and select 98/ME. Apply changes and run setup.
Good luck and should work

We have upgraded to Windows 7 and our castle explorer cd-roms no longer work. is there a newer edition of that wonderful software?

Avanquest have told me that these games simply will not run on newer OS's - I found this out after buying a DK game, thinking I could run it in compatibility mode, but it still did not work. Bottom line, they don't care - unless you have a machine somewhere running XP, there's not much you can do as they really don't seem to care once they have your money.

Can not install in windows 7

Right click over the app installer and click properties,

Go to the compatibility tab and make sure to have the settings as my screenshot

apply changes and click ok.

Try to install the app after that.

if it doesn't work then you need a newer version of the software.

The patch for fixing the sound does not open

Most of the DK software was made for older computers that interacted with sound card hardware almost directly.

Todays sound cards are much more advanced.

DK also dont have much support for older oftware and even went third party for distribution etc.

If you have an older computer eg windows 98 tyhen it would probably run fine.

You could even try running it in compatibility mode under vista but I doubt it will fix your issue.

Canon MP500 all in one printer is not compatible with Windows Vista. Is there a solution for this problem, or do I need to buy a different printer?

My Canon PIXMA MP500, purchased in mid-2006, came with the (then) ScanSoft OmniPage SE2 software on a CD. The PC had WinXP Installed. I had no use for the ScanSoft it so I made no effort to install it.
Fast Forward:
Two PC crashes later, July 2009. Using Win Vista Home Premium
LOST, important WinWord document file, only a hard copy available.
I tried to recover, scanning the "Xerox" copy. The SE Version of OmniPage was very complicated but I succeeded in producing a replacement *.doc file.

It appears that newer editions of WinVista contain the right printer drivers for this Canon Model.

Vista won't run it

Go to the start menu, and find the games executable icon. Right click on it and select properties. Then click the tab that says compatibility, select run this program in compatibility mode, and choose windows xp service pack 2. That should get you up and running once you click ok, then start your game.
