Question about Sharp Televison & Video

Our 37" Sharp AQUOS HDTV LCD TV's power light is blinking. We were out of town for a couple of months. A friend came in and attempted to use the tv, it would not work. Now the power light is blinking. What can we do?

What can cause a short like this? We were out of town when it happened. Could a power surge or a brown out cause something like this to happen? could someone clicking and clicking to get the tv on cause it to happen?
Don't want to blame, just wondering.

Thank you so much for your time and info no this - it's been very helpful. This silly tv was just over a year old!

We do get a lot of brownouts in hot weather like this past summer.
We'll call someone. Thanks again - have a blessed day.

You might need to replace the power supply. The blinking pattern is a code. If it is blinking once per second or thereabouts it could be Loose Connection to Inverters, the Inverter Unit or the LCD Panel. The firmware may also need to be reloaded. If both the power and OPC lights blink it could be the Power Unit (what I meant by power supply) or the Main Unit. A temporary fix I've seen is to unplug the television overnight. Plug it back in. When the light begins to blink hold down the power button on the television set itself not the one on the remote control. If the power indicator on the television turns red let the power button go. Press and release the power button. The power indicator should turn orange/yellow and then green. You wouldn't want to turn the television off after this because you could put the tv back into a coma.

Unless you have at least a basic experience in repairing electronics - not much: the power source is in protected mode because there's a short inside the tv - a part has failed.
Better just call a repairman, you will make the problem worse if mess with it when you don't know what you're doing.

Parts can just fail from old age or bad quality; capacitors are infamous lately for that - read this

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capacitor_p...
A power surge can easily fry a power transistor or an integrated circuit. Heck, even a storm near by is enough to fry a tv.
No, pushing the command button in any way can't do that, in the worst case it could lock the processor but this can be easily cleared by unplugging the tv from the wall for a few hours.

Sharp 52" Aquos LCD Will Not Turn ON-Blinking LEDs

I had a similar problem. Fleeting video, then audio only for few seconds and then nothing except the green power LED blinking on and off.
I changed the power inverter board, backlight inverter boards and power supply board but still the problem is not gone.

Just 18 month old TV and out of warranty.

Sharp 37 inch aqous tv power button blinking red

If the blinking light seems to be blinking in a pattern, then it is an error code. The end result in any case, is the main power supply is not functioning properly, or the backlight power supply has a problem.
