Question about Philips Magnavox 9P6034C 60" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

I have a 60 inch Phillips model number 60VB2K3RG and it will no longer turn on. I have verified the fuses as well as the power going into the TV all are good. I have even used a DMM to verify power exists on the different boards. Does anyone have any troubleshooting tips to offer?

The LED remains off and does not do anything.
I noticed the model number on this problem shows a 9P6034C but my TV is a 60VB2K3RG and I wanted to make sure that you are aware of the correct model TV.

    Thank you

  • gino_e_casti Sep 09, 2010

Yes I did and all of the electrolytics are in good shape, whene a cap goes it typically will pop the top or have a bulged appearnce to it and this is not the case with all of the caps on all of the boards.

  • gino_e_casti Sep 09, 2010

Do you happen to have a schematic or photos of the internal cabinet pointing out the different boards?

  • gino_e_casti Sep 09, 2010

No chassis number anywhere in the cabinet

  • gino_e_casti Sep 10, 2010

I checked all of the resistors last night with a DMM and all appear to be good in other words all have a resistance of varying values.

The chassis number is not available anywhere on the TV.

Any luck with schematics? Do you have any other suggestions?

  • gino_e_casti Sep 10, 2010

All IC's appear to be good as well, any of your colleages have any tips?

  • gino_e_casti Sep 15, 2010

It's been a few days now have you had a chence to think about this and see if I can do anything else to troubleshoot this problem?

If Fixya cannot help do they refund the money I gave?

What is the status of the LED at the front? Does it remain off or does it come on and blink? Please provide this info so that we can continue with the diagnosis.

Something is causing an overload. Did you look for faulty electrolytic caps?

  • eagle338
    eagle338 Sep 09, 2010

I would recommend that you test each and every resistor on the power supply and main audio video board. Should be around 20-30 of them and shouldn't take more than 10-15 mins. We should go by trial and error coz we do not have any blinking codes to help us locate the source of the problem.

I will check if I have one in my collection. Can you please get me the chassis number?

  • eagle338
    eagle338 Sep 09, 2010

Sorry I do not have one for this model. No luck finding it anywhere either possibly coz its a rather old model. However if you want me to spot the board or need to know how to read the values on the resistor through color coding then let me know and I will help you .

What about shorted ICs? Did you check if any f them are broke and have formed an open circuit? No luck with the schematics. Tried my sources too. A google search for your model no returns about 4-5 results. So schematic is out of question!

There is a particular IC known as Flyback switching regulator. Its in the HV section of the power supply. Did you make sure that you check it? Also may I know the procedure you are using to test the ICs?

Why do people request refunds without trying what has been suggested? You did not answer my last question. Ypu also did not tell me your procedure of testing the ICs!

  • gino_e_casti Sep 15, 2010

I did not see the last comment that is why I requested the refund. As far as how I am checking the IC's I verified the votage is present at each one. I have not looked for an input on each chip as I was hoping that you had a schematic that would allow me to follow a signal through. Do you have a reference designator for the Flyback regulator?

  • eagle338
    eagle338 Sep 15, 2010

You see. You do not need a schematic for this. You can use the Vcc and common ground point on the tv to do this, The only question is which one is the Vcc pin of each IC. If you can get me the IC numbers of all the ICs I will get refer the data sheets and get you the pin no for each of them. Sorry about the schematic. Since the set is very old, its hard to find one. If you want to make your job easier then there is another idea. You can just replace the power supply board to fix this one.

My 60 inch phillips tv, I turned it off the other night and now all i get when i turn it on is the power button flashing green. 6 quick flashes and then 1. I need my tv, plz help

Try a new Web search for your brand. Try looking for a Diagnostic trouble code of 6-1 and see if you can pull up parts of a Service manual using that search routine. Try Phillips trouble codes, Phillips Diagnostic Codes, or your model# in the search.

It sounds like it went into a default Diagnostic mode. If you have a Remote with extra functions it may get you into the Diagnostic menu.

My phillips 60 inch tv 60pl9200d/37 wont turn on the power button flashes blue

Look in the manual. (Page 4)

Turn the TV on From main supply: Ensure that the main supply is turned on. A blue indicator light on the front of the TV lights up. When the TV is turned on by the main supply, the blue indicator light will blink for 45 seconds. This is the lamp's start-up period. When the light goes off, press the POWER button on the remote control or power switch. Press POWER to turn on the TV.

Turned off by itself and never came back what part will I replace

If the TV is completly non-responsive (ie not even a flicker of light on the power button) then one of the first things to check on this is the fuses - easiest being the right corner next to where the power cord plugs in (have to take off the back panel)

Probably the convergence board.

First, try resetting the TV by unplugging it for 30 seconds and replugging it.

Does the problem exist on both cable/sat and an external source like a dvd player/vcr?

Go to www.usasupport.philips.com and enter 60pp9200 as your model number - click on the link for the "Quick Start" Guide - read p 8 on manual convergence - if the manual convergence fails, then your convergence board is bad.

Phillips 60 inch tv

There is nothing you can do to repair the convergence problem it sounds like you have. If it is the older PTV set with crts it will probably cost $200.-$300. for the average repair of this nature.
If it's a DLP model, no convergence in those. Most likely a Light Engine. $500.-$800
