There might be a switch in BIOS to allow you choose graphic card to use. You can use the integrated one on your motherboard when installing the new one. Then switch back after done. Safe mode if still not getting display with the integrated one.

Yes, it is very possibility of driver problem, but you can check it to attached with another PC. If the problem will persist you need to drivers. And another possibility is the LCD did not support 1024x768 resolution.

It only displays 4bits

If your computer monitor displays 4 bit color and a resolution of 640X480 and you cannot increase the color bit and the screen resolution then the display graphics card driver was not installed or the wrong graphics driver was installed.
Install or re-install the correct graphics card driver.

DIsplay Problem with Intel Dual-Core Xeon® 5050, 3.0 Ghz Problem

Try using a different graphics card or make sure that you even have one installed in your computer. If no display is present on boot up, then your graphics card might be corrupt.

Display driver missing

If your OS is XP SP2, you can un install the Graphics card via device manager and on re boot let Windows new found hardware wizard pick it up and it should set up your Card itself, as the CD's drivers are probably not the latest XP SP2 compatible driver.

You could also go to the Graphics card's Manufacturer's Support site and download the latest XP compatible driver, or whatever OS's driver you require.

You can look here also: http://www.fixya.com/support/appian_graphics

Good luck.
