Water pressure good, thermostat calling for heat boiler ignites , heats to 80, turns off, drops to 40 reignites - keeps this cycle going. temp sensor? return sensor? any help appreciated

the thermostat has an upper and lower setting at which point to turn the unit off and back on
most have a 10 degree variation between off and on so that a steady temp is maintained
check to see if the lower setting can be raised closer to the 80 degrees
if not consider a new thermostat with closer settings

Air lock cooling system

Not sure I follow your wording on the different temps. If the system is full of coolant and working correctly, the thermostat should open at 195 degrees which would be several miles down the road. Once the thermostat opens both radiator hoses should be warm. If the water pump is not working the engine will get hot very quickly.
Have you tried running without the thermostat to see what happens ?

I replaced the water pump, thermostat and radiator cap and the temperature gage is jumping up to about 230 and then it cools down to about 200 why is this happening? My truck is a 1995 GMC Sierra

This is happening because you got it right!! It is perfectly normal for the temp gage to indicate those readings. Here's why...

The thermostat has to be heated to its set point, say 195 degree's, before it will open. While it is doing that the engine temperature sensor is "upstream" and it takes a little longer for the thermostat to react. The old thermostat may have had a lower set point or was just weak.

Perfectly normal, nothing to worry about.

Thermostat resets itself to 85 degrees a couple hours after I set it to 74 degrees

To manually operate the thermostat set the system to cool and fan to auto then press the HOLD button one time then release, you will see the hold word on the screen after that up the UP or DOWN arrows is setting the desired temperature.

I have a honeywell thermostat model#th6110d1005 and it wont go below 68 degrees how can i removed the lock

i just called customer service for the same problem. Push the fan button, which is the MIDDLE BUTTON of the 3 bottom buttons, and the UP ARROW button at the same time, you will see the number 1 on the left of the screen. Press the bottom right button until you see the number 28 on the left, 68 should be on the right. Press the DOWN ARROW until you get to the desired temp, it won't go lower than 50. Then press ok.

Can not get temp below 77

Is the thermostat set up for automatic change over from heat to cool? If so, the heat is probably set for 75, you will need to lower the heat setting in order to Lower the cooling. the stat won't let these settings with in 2 degrees of each other so the heating and cooling don't fight each other.

Furnace shutting on and off every four to five minutes all day

Have you had furnace cleaned? Have you changed filter or took filter out and try heater? Have you checked return grill to make sure you don't have anything in front of it. Return grill or duct could be blocked or two small. Blower motor could be going off on thermal overload. Does the heater do the same thing when it is 20 degrees outside. The other thing it could be is furnace is not big enough.
Good luck let me know what you find out
