Plug it in pc, go to start, explore, select the removable drive, right click and format it, dont select quick format, it will solve your problem.
it is due to virus.,

1. Download this tool:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/4040651/LLFTOOL.EXE

2. Format

(WARNING: After running this low level format tool,
the whole USB flash disk surface will be fully erased.
Therefore, data restoration will be impossible after using this utility!)

My usb drive is write protected i cant format it pls help....

Have you tried doing it from another PC? If the same problem persists, look closely at your drive and check for a tiny switch that has a lock label on it- it maybe switched to the lock position. Most USB drives has this switch for write protection.

I have 1 gb iball usb flash drive & it is not formatting

Is there a write protect switch on the drive?

In Windows XP, right click on "My Computer", choose manage. Go to Disk Management and find the drive in question. right click on the drive for more formatting options.

Hi ,i having 1GB of flash drive of Transcend company.for some unknown reason that showing "write protected ,disable it to use" message is coming.i tried several ways but not succeeded.how to disable that...

I sense that your usb memory is equipped with a physical write protect switch that you may have overlooked. Locate it, switch to the "non-writeprotected" (unlocked) mode and everything should work normally. Good luck!

Try this,
Format your Flash Drive after backing up your data using this tool,

http://hddguru.com/download/software/HDDGURU-Low-Level-Format-Tool/LLFsetup.2.36.1181.exe

This will format the drive in RAW file system. After doing format using this tool, perform a general format in windows by going to disc management. In disc management, select FAT or FAT32 as file system based on the capacity of your flash drive. IF it is upto 2 GB format using FAT and if more than that format using FAT32.
Please let me know if you need further help.
Thanks

Remove Write Protection

Try this,
1.
Check out if the USB drive has a small swich for write protection. If its there try toggling the switch.

2.
Windows can all write protect flash drives. Check out this registry path,

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\StorageDevicePolicies.

You may find a key here on the right side by the name 'WriteProtect'. If it's not there this would not be the cause of problem. If it's there, make sure that the value is 0.

Please let me know if this does'nt work.

Removing write protection of USB pen drive

if u format ur pen drive. then use this step
-
Check out the registry under:

1)click on start button
2)clik on run dialog box
3)type regedit
4) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\StorageDevicePolicies.
The value 'WriteProtect' should be absent or set to '0' and when you try to format it you have to format it as FAT16

Good Luck!!
