Question about Acer AL2423W LCD Monitor

2 Answers

Everything was fine with this monitor. About 4 years old I think. I leave my computer/monitor on and both plugged into ups. Went to bed. Got up and all I can get is the word acer to come up weak for about 1 second. I have unplugged all wires from both monitor and computer. Plugged back in and same results. I have also flipped the switch on back. Another monitor works fine on same computer

Ray krans, Most owners don't have spare monitor to prove pc is not the problem. Good going!! Now on to your monitor!!! The symptom you have described is not new. If interested in a possible cheap DIY fix, go to YOUTUBE and watch some owners/technicians disassemble and perform the needed replacement of bad (swollen, leaky) electrolytic filter capacitors on the "switch-mode-power-supply" which provides dc operating voltages to other circuits. After viewing some videos you will be able to tell me if you can or can't do the repair. Tell me if you leave your pc and monitor on all year long or if you power it down every day. Cost of new filter capacitors less than $7 total. If you farm-out the repair, cost will increase 5 to 8 fold. Leave additional comment on your plan of action. 12fixlouie

First I think you should do some troubleshooting. Try hooking up your computer to a different monitor and see if there's any display when you boot up. If that doesn't work, then open up the desktop and make sure all of the power connections are solid. One that sometimes comes off is the 2nd motherboard power connector. Because you aren't seeing the blue LED, I think it might be that connector. The motherboard has one 24 or 26 pin power connector and one simple 4 pin connector. The 4 pin is usually in a corner near the processor. Take a look at that to see if your motherboard is getting all of the power it needs. If everything is connected properly and your monitor isn't the problem, the new power supply you ordered could fix the problem. I hope this helps!

My gateway 24-inch lcd monitor will not power on, have unplugged, switched connections, power plugs etc. and it will not power on. computer powers up just fine, but nothing with the monitor. its approx. 3...

The monitor power supply has probably failed. Replace it or replace the monitor (3 years is the longest warranty on most monitors). One way to check this is to put a different monitor on the computer and make sure that the video signal is available.

I wish that I could be of more help.

Monitor dead

Check your power cables properly and make sure it is attached. Check your power button, maybe you have pressed the wrong one.

My monitor doesn't display anything, though it's receiving input from the CPU. I know that input is being received because the monitor status light is green, and times out (turns orange).

Same thing happened to me! Went to bed last night, everything was fine. Woke up today, orange light came on, no display, slight flickering seen, but that's it. Cables and cords are fine, tried unplugging and plugging it back in, NOTHING. Totally dead. I'm guess off to buy a new one today. Typical made-in-China JUNK.

Screen went blank and orange light is on

fiona_sheeha, If ACER warranty service not an option, then unit will need local tech to troubleshoot unit's power supply/inverter circuit for possible COMMON and repairable printed circuit board fix. You must read more of my fixya profile and visit the web links you find there so you will know and understand what ALL your options are!!! Some units require less than $5 in parts to refurbish them to working status. Your "cold-cathode-fluorescent-lamp" backlit LCD monitor isn't any different than any other brand of monitor in it's basic operating principles!! I hope this helps. 12fixlouie

I hooked up my new acer p191w to my dell laptop 1525.HELP!

Not sure what the problem is, but I would suggest pressing the Fn+F5? There is a function key that toggles from dual screen, just the laptop screen or just the monitor. Hope that helps..

G'luck

My monitor says no signal

You'll need to check the cable connections and the computer that it is attached to. The monitor may be going into standby mode because the computer went into Suspended/Hibernate mode. Try restarting the computer. If you're unable to do this, try a hard power off and then try to turn it back on.

Monitor goes blank less than a second after turning on.

I start my computer and turn it on, and everything looks fine for about 1/4 of a second and then it goes black while leaving the power light green. I can only see the screen again after turning it off and on, but that's only for another 1/4 second. What's up?
I got my rosewill flatscreen as a hand me down from my father. I've had it for several years now. Was working fine until a month ago. When I turn the computer on the screen goes black after 1/4 of a saecond. I have to turn it off and on anywhere from 10 to 20 times before it stays on. I have checked all plugs to the computer and outlets. I have absolutely no idea whats causing this.

Monitor keeps saying self test everything working check plugs

The self test thinks nothing is connected to it
it might be the cable or the input circuit.
not an easy issue to verify if you only have one input.
most often its is the internal board with a failed input circuit.
you can only open the unit and test the vga cable continuity.
as most have a 1 year warranty you might want to check on yours.

Sony Monitor ... SOMEONE HELP, please!

Thanks for your response. I actually sent my monitor out to guy that does LCD repairs for cheap. He changed out the video board and did repairs similar to yours but still couldn't get the monitor to work. After some more testing, he found that one of the chips that contained Sony's proprietary firmware had gone bad and said there really was no way to replace the chip. It definitely seems like we had the same problem, so I thought this information may help. I'm sorry that you paid so much for repairs that didn't solve the problem.
