SOURCE: Kenmore 70 Series Dryer not heating and not cutting off

I had an identical problem to yours this weekend with my Kenmore dryer. There were 2 problems.

1. Timer was broken. Does not advance to "OFF" position on timed dry, however it still works for auto-dry.

2. Thermal fuse was blown. Upon replacing, dryer heated up normally.

I believe when the timer broke, the dryer had kept running and blew the thermal fuse. On Sears' website, thermal fuse is $5.30, timer is roughly $80.

Dryer runs but does not heat on maytag model med6000xw1

If you have a newer model with electronic ignition, check igniter by the burner, or if a pilot light ignition, obviously re-light, but possibly the gas safety interlock switch is tripped by a weak pilot flame, which causes main gas valve to stay off. Best guess, igniter element has cracked, and is simple to replace, order online.

Did you check the igniter? You never mentioned anything about checking, or replacing the igniter. The most common cause of a no heat problem on a GAS dryer is worn or blown igniter. These appliances are equipped with a burner assembly with electronic igniters. The following link explains a little theory about how these igniters work:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r401858-replacing_oven_igniter_gas_range

I know the link is for a gas range, but the burner assembly functions are nearly identical, as well as, the type igniters used.

If you are having ignition problems it is probably a simple matter of a weak or bad igniter. The burner assembly will ignite automatically as long as the gas valve, igniter coils and igniter are all functioning properly. It can take up to 90 seconds for the burner to ignite. As the igniter ages, you may experience longer ignition times.

Replacement parts can be purchased at any of the following websites:
searspartsdirect.com pcappliancerepair.com appliancepartspros.com repairclinic.com All these sites have competitive pricing, so shop and compare. The first three sites listed also have helpful exploded view parts illustrations to assist you with locating and properly identifying any parts you may need.

If you have any questions, please post back and let me know. I hope this information is helpful to you.

How do you light the pilot light for a 70 series Kenmore dryer?

MOST modern appliances that use gas ignition (including kitchen ranges) no longer have a pilot light. These appliances are now equipped with a burner assembly with electronic igniters. The following link explains a little theory about how these igniters work:
http://www.fixya.com/support/r401858-replacing_oven_igniter_gas_range

I know the link is for a gas range, but the burner assembly functions are nearly identical, as well as, the type igniters used. If you are having ignition problems it may be a simple matter of a weak or bad igniter. The burner assembly will ignite automatically as long as the gas valve, igniter coils and igniter are all functioning properly. It can take up to 90 seconds for the burner to ignite. As the igniter ages, you may experience longer ignition times.

You can view an illustrations of your burner assembly at appliancepartspros.com, pcappliancerepair.com and searspartsdirect.com. If either of the igniter coils are determined to be defective, BOTH should be replaced at the same time. If you need assistance in troubleshooting the burner assembly components, or help identifying parts, please post back with your complete MODEL NUMBER (located on a nameplate around the door opening. I hope this information is helpful to you.

My kenmore dryer has the motor running but it has no heat. My clothes don't dry at all.

I've had this happen twice. It's the small flat thermal fuse and it costs about $5 online and is easy to install. Sears wants $100 to do this, maybe more now days.

My gas dryer runs but no heat.

Most gas dryers use a surface-type ignitor, a ceramic element with traces that glow to ignite the gas and yours has failed. BTW, it's helpful to give model numbers so we don't have to guess.

Dryer heats randomly..Igniter is working.

Generally operation when cold that worsens with use indicates a component that is failing when hot. Start at the burner with the coils and work your way back to relays on the control. Sounds a lot like a bad coil on the burner. I have seen these do 2 complete loads then fail. Setting over night and cooling off will work again the same way. Intermittent conditions are a real challenge sometimes.

No heat

If the burner assembly is not lighting I would recommend you look into an igniter replacement. If the igniter is worn, or does not work at all, the gas safety valve will not open and you'll never get ignition. The part number is 279311.

If the burner assembly lights, then goes out after a few minutes, I would recommend you replace the gas valve solenoids. There are two of them on the burner assembly. It is recommended that you replace BOTH of them at the same time. The part numbers are 69540 and 69539. Searspartsdirect.com has an excellent illustration of your dryer. Just type in your model number and look under the "Burner Assembly" heading. The igniter is listed as item 4. The solenoids are items 13 and 14.

If you have questions, please let me know. I hope this is helpful to you.

Kenmore gas dryer model 110.76814690 will not heat up

The bottom panel is held on by spring clips. Use a putty knife to access the bottom. The heat is regulated with a Klixon mounted next to the blower housing near the vent pipe so it can judge the temperature of the air coming out of the drum.Right next to it is a melting type fuse.8f17134.jpg If the dryer runs and gets too hot the fuse will melt. But the dryer will still run. So if the fuse is good(continuity) and the dryer control(cycle) thermostat is also good then you should have power going to the gas valve assembly when the machine is running unless the timer is in the no heat or wrinkle free/cool down mode. When the gas valve assembly is energized the flame sensor a%20flame%20sensor%202.bmp flame sensor mounted outside the burner chamber detects the heat from the ignitor. When the heat is very intense then the sensor shuts down the igniter
a%20igniter.jpg Igniter and that frees up the power so that the coils can be fully energised and open the gas gates. The gas comes out and hits the red hot igniter and you have ignition. It stays on for maybe 2 or 3 minutes or until the control thermostat is satisfied and shuts down power to the gas valve assembly. So... If your gas dryer has a good flame sensor and a good igniter AND the dryer will work some and quit, replace these: dryer%20coil%20kit.jpg Gas operator coils NOTE: The coils get hot and quit on these machines when they get a little age on them. It is aggrevating because it is a hard to diagnose thing. But well worth the 20 bucks.
