SOURCE: refilled black cartridge 36 on my 5650 won't work

The cartridge is electronically dead. This is a common occurrence from improper refilling. To be correctly refilled it must be done under a vacuum to prevent air from entering the print head, which has likely happened. As ink flows through the print head it acts as coolant in an engine, when air is introduced the print head cannot cool, over heats, and ruins the cartridge. These cartridges are difficult enough for us professionals to refill successfully, my recommendation is to leave it to us, or buy original. A refilled integrated print head cartridge will always continue to read as empty because there is no way to reset the cartridge, the manufactures do this on purpose. Lexmark cartridges in general are designed to only last one cycle anyways, multiple refills is attained only with proper technique.

Take out all cartridges, switch printer off and then on again and let printer see that there are no cartridges. Do this 5 times, it resets the cartridges. Then install refilled cartridges

HOW DO I CHANGE THE INK CARTRIDGES IN MY CANON PIXMA MP160

Hi

Here's how to replace ink cartridge.

Make sure the printer is turn on. Place your fingers under the LED control panel and lift the scanning unit. The cartridges inside the printer will automatically slide to the left, for easy access. Remove the empty cartridge by pushing the front of the cartridge downward. It will snap out of its cradle. Pull out the cartridge and replace the new ink cartridge. Insert the new cartridge. With the front of the cartridge tilted down, push the back into the cradle. Lift the front upward, and the cartridge will snap into place. Please rate and make a comment if you find this solution very helpful and might help others as well. Post more comments if you need more help. Regards and thank you for using Fixya !

Problem installing an ink catridge

Most HP printers will move the print heads to the center of the printer when you open the front.

Each cartridge has a flip that you can flip up. The cartridge can then be removed by tilting it toward you. You can install a new cartridge by removing it from the box and foil liner. You then remove a strip that protects the head. Like you took out the old cartridge, tilt the cartridge and straighten it up. Flip the flip down. Close the top. You should be ready to go after the heads clean themselves and do an alignment.

If the printing is not satisfactory, you can go to your programs and hp will have a tool to perform alignment.

You can use HP cartridges, refilled cartridges or fill cartridges yourself (depends).

I've filled cartridges with success. However, it can be a bit messy.

Print cartridges

  1. When one or more ink cartridges are empty, for example, Black, the LCD shows “Ink Empty Black” and “Open Cover.” Close the printer’s document support and the document tray.
  2. Lift the top cover to the open position until it locks securely into place.
  3. Pull the ink cartridge hook toward the front of the printer and remove the color ink cartridge displayed on the LCD. Place the cartridge in a plastic bag as it may still contain some residual ink and may leak.
  4. Open the new ink cartridge bag for the color shown on the LCD and remove the new ink cartridge. The cartridge cover may come off when you open the bag. This is not uncommon and will not damage the cartridge.
  5. Each color has its own correct position that is clearly labeled and color coded inside the printer. Keep the ink cartridge in an upright position when you insert it into slot. It will only fit in the correct direction. Press down on the ink cartridge until the hook snaps over it.
  6. If you replaced an ink cartridge while “Near Empty” was displayed on the LCD, the LCD may ask you to verify that the replacement cartridge was brand new one. Example: “Did You Change Black? 1.Yes 2.No.” For each new cartridge you installed, press 1 on the dial pad to automatically reset the ink dot counter for that color. If the ink cartridge you installed is not a brand-new one, select 2.
