This would be a fault in the zoom rocker switch and can usually be repaired fairly inexpensively. However, it’s not a user serviceable problem and will need to be diagnosed by a qualified service technician.

Hi Rick. I have a broken HF-10 zoom switch. I bought the camera 2 years ago -- sounds like my best option is to repair it?

The zoom rocker switch is part of the control block assembly and is a common problem on, not only the HF 10 but other models as well. This can be repaired fairly inexpensively but it's not really a user serviceable problem and should be done by a qualified technician. Below is a link to a repair facility that should be able to help you if you need it.

Can't seem to select any Auto Focus from the menu...it stays "greyed out" no matter what I do...it will manually focus, but auto focus cant be turned on.

If your camcorder is in "EASY" operation, it will not allow you to change certain features in the menu. On the other hand, if your camcorder is in "EASY" operation, it should be autofocusing.

Hope this helps you in some way.

Camera starts to zoom voluntarily.

Where to find the serial number for Vixia HF10?

Remove the battery from the camera, release the slide lock on the bottom to remove it, and the serial number is on the plate behind the battery.

The dial for the different types of washes is just spinning

Hello,
If I am correct in my assumption that when you set it to a certain programme it seems not to be at the correct one that you thought. Then this is not the timer at fault but some little plastic cogs behind the control knob when these break either due to normal wear and tear or some one trying to turn the timer the wrong way.The Main cam and the indicator will need replacing. This is not an exspensive repair for parts anyway.
Hope I was of some help.

Good Luck

HF10 zoom goes without any explicit request

My HF10 started to mysteriously autozoom as well, and I had made no setup changes. I don't have exactly the same symptoms as you describe except that it would begin to zoom when I didn't want it to. I noticed the [I.AF] (Instant AutoFocus) icon, so I went into the menu (Camera Setup - AF Mode) and turned the "Instant AF" to "Normal AF". After that, the autozoom seemed to have stopped. I set it back to "Instant AF" and it did not autozoom again. I wouldn't know how to turn the autozoom back on again even if I wanted to, but thankfully it appears to be gone now. Hopefully it will stay in manual zoom mode. Hope that helps.
