I put a new filter in my fridaire, but water dispenser not working, and ice maker not working

repairs should be performed by a qualified repair person. when replacing a filter make sure the filter properly installed. once secured get 3,1 gallon containers to purge the water line and reservoir. BEWARE! water may continue to run while flushing the water line. this is why you'll need 3 containers. once you are able to finish flushing the line and the water is no longer gray the flushing for the water dispenser is complete. dispose the ice in the container in the freezer. let the ice maker cycle a few hours then dispose the filtered ice. once copleted you're done.

How to repair an ice-maker of a refrigerator

An icemaker receives water through a small, 1/4-inch water supply line that runs from the refrigerator to a water pipe, where it is connected by a tap valve. The water supply line enters a valve in the refrigerator that is controlled by an electric solenoid that sends water through a fill tube into a mechanized icemaker assembly. There, the water freezes and is dumped into an ice bin. When the bin is full, the ice lifts a bail wire that turns off the icemaker. If the water’s route is blocked or the solenoid doesn’t work—or if the bail wire is lifted—the icemaker won’t make ice. (Also note that your home’s water pressure must be strong enough to serve an icemaker.)
Here are a few steps you can take to get your icemaker working (be sure the bail wire above the ice tray is in the down position):
1) If the icemaker doesn’t make ice but you can see the arm swing into motion and you hear a buzz for about 10 seconds after it is finished, the water valve is asking for water that isn’t arriving. This means the valve and the solenoid are probably okay, but the water supply is not. Be sure the water supply line isn’t kinked behind or beneath the refrigerator (1/4-inch copper tubing is much better than plastic fill line).
2) Check to see if something has caused ice to back up around the mechanism—this can cause the fill tube to freeze, blocking the mechanism. When ice cubes are small and seem to be getting smaller, it generally indicates a frozen fill tube.
3) Check the water line that enters the back of the freezer for a blockage. Find the water shut-off valve behind the refrigerator or under the sink, turn it off, unscrew the copper line from the back of the refrigerator, put the copper line in a bucket, turn on the valve, and see if pressurized water pours out.
4) Check the tap valve; a bad tap valve may cause the problem where the icemaker’s supply tube connects to the water pipe. If necessary, replace the inlet valve and the tap valve. For the tap valve, use the type that requires you to drill a 1/4-inch hole (as opposed to the “self-piercing” type). You can do this yourself, or call a repairperson or plumber to install an inline water filter when replacing the valve.
5) The water line attaches to a solenoid at the back of the refrigerator and then travels to the icemaker. The solenoid may be defective or may not be receiving power. You can try removing the sediment screen inside the solenoid and flushing it with water to clean it, and at the same time you can inspect any seals or diaphragms to ensure that they are sound. Unplug the refrigerator first. Unless you’re skilled at home repairs, this job is better left in the hands of an appliance repairperson.

Check shutoff arm. Check to make sure it is getting water, check water solenoid. Check water supply line it may be frozen or plugged up. Check freezer temperature to low of a temperature could cause the line to freeze up. Check for power at motor. You will need to remove the ice maker. Find the leads that go to the auger and connect a voltmeter. Press the dispenser lever you should have power if not replace the control board or micro switch. Check control switch or microswitch. Put icemaker in test mode. Only some are equipped.

We have had the refrigerator for about two years and we just now hooked the ice maker up. The light on the door for the filter is red. Do we need to change it?

Check for a pinched line between filter and icemaker first, then purge some water through the ice maker to make sure it flushes anything in the line out, and discard the water and the first couple pounds of cubes. If it remains red, replace the filter as it may be obstructed.

The water stopped coming out of the water dispenser and the ice maker will not make and drop ice. The line from the house to the fridge is not clogged, the lines to the icemaker do not appear clogged.

Sounds like someone accidentally locked you out. If you see a RED light lit above the touch pad.

To Lock Out Press the LOCK Touch Pad for 3-5 seconds. A Red light will appear above

the Touch Pad.

To Unlock

Press the LOCK Touch Pad for 3-5 seconds until the Red light above the

Touch Pad goes out.

Other possibilities:

Household water line valve is not open. -open valve

Freezer door is not closed-Close door tight

Ice & water filter cartridge is clogged-replace filter
Front filter not fully installed, if equipped-Push filter until you hear a CLICK. filter should be FLUSH with cabinet

My icemaker stop working but the water dispenser still working I check both water lines from the filter its ok but can't check the freezer line by icemaker. turly don't know why the water will not flow...

If there is no ice in the ice mold of the ice maker, you can pour enough water in to make cubes, wait an hour or so for the icemaker to cycle.( freeze and dump the ice). If it does, then your water valve on the back of the refrigerator that the main water line hooks up to is bad. Replace it. The valve has two sides to it. An ice maker side and a water resevoir side. One side can be bad allowing the other to work.

If the ice maker does not cycle and dump the cubes then you probably have an ice maker problem.

Icemaker not working- red light flashes constantly

The red light should flash twice , pause then flash twice constantly . If you close the flap on the left side , then the light should go off . This shows the optics (ice maker cut off ) are good .

Check the black tube ( fill tube ) , which puts water into the ice maker , to see if it is iced inside . If so , then the water valve behind the refrig is bad . It seeps into the tube and freezes , blocking the water flow .

Pour about 2/3 cup of water into the ice maker . If it freezes and dumps , then the water valve needs replaced . If it doesn't dump , and stays frozen in the ice maker , replace the ice maker . Also , make sure the coils under the front of the refrig are clean , as this will cause warmer temp in the freezer and the ice maker needs 5 degrees to operate .

Ge monogram not making any ice. I replaced the water filter yesterday pm

Hi joondalup,
If you have just replace the icemaker and reset your filter allert, you should just be able to wait for a few days and it should be fine. When you replace the filer you loose some water that is built up in the lines and filter, the icemaker will have to cycle a few times just to fill the filter and lines back up. So give it a day or two and it should start working. If it was not making ice before you changed the filter than you may have another problem. I really hope I helped you, good luck. [email protected]
