Hi, this surge sound that you are hearing is probably the freon moving through the lines on start up, and if this is a heat-pump and not a gas fired heater you have on this central unit, when the reversing valve is energized in either the cooling mode or the heating mode, you will hear a loud surge of freon gas moving the sleeve in the valve to switch it from one posistion to the other. It is rather loud but should only last for a few seconds or so. If it continues to make this sound after start up, it should still be under warranty, so I would call them out before it expires to be sure its not any thing else. I am sure if you have a heat-pump, and you don't have a gas heater, its just the reversing valve shifting over that is making this surging sound as this is the sound they make. Please keep me posted if it gets worse or you are not sure, and please don't forget to rate me as I know you will be kind.

What causes a condensing unit to run but blower motor will not come on

Most common cause is the capacitor. The top where the wires plug on should be flat. A lightening strike or other power surge will zap it and cause the top to puff up.

Is is the sound of water being thrown around? Some units actually sling the water from the drain pan back onto the coil. This improves efficiency. It's sort of a gurgling sound. Here's more helpful information is you need it:

Central Heat and Air noises.

Hi, It sounds to me that this split system you have is a heat-pump and not a gas fire air handler. The noise that you are hearing must be the freon in the copper lines equalizing in the system upon shut down of the compressor. All systems must and will go through this sequence. It shouldn't be that loud though. The copper lines should have armor flex on at least the larger suction line for insulation and to keep it from condensating everywhere in the summer in the cooling mode.If you find it is bare with nothing on it, you can buy this insulated tubing at Home Depot or O.S.Hardware. Its black in color and is split down the entire 10' section with glue covered seams on it. This should cut down the noise. Depending on the unit size Tonnage wise, the suction line may be 3/4" or 5/8" in diameter.Just ask for there water line insulation and like I said it comes in 10' sections and is very cheap, 20cents a foot or so. Please keep me posted if this does not take care of the problem. It may be coming from the lines where they enter the air handler. I will wait for you're reply.
Sincerely,

Outside Unit blowing air but not cooling and slight buzzing sound

The compressor is not coming on and some part of that unit has failed. Do you hear any clicking sounds along with the buzzing sound? Recommend that you shut the unit down (remove power from it) until a service tech can listen to it try to start up.

The power company-installed load management system is probably a red hearing. That system will either fully turn off the unit or allow it to turn on/start up.

Problem with amana central air conditioner saftey switch

The switch he jumped out was the high pressure cut out switch which tripped because you left the cover on. Sounds as though it did it's job and he cut it out to sell you another. Yes it is important to have as it protects the compressor.
