Question about Canon PowerShot SX10 IS Digital Camera

1 Answer

I have the Canon PowerShot SX10IS. I have used this camera and successfully uploaded my photos to my MacBook OS 10.4.X now for several years. Just 3 days ago, I successfully uploaded my pics. Then this morning, I plugged it in doing everything the same as I have been and it does not connect. I tried my old Canon A95 and it connected so it is not the USB cable. What could happen in 3 days? The camera has been in my house. I was taking pictures of my art work so there has been no exposure to the elements. I am stumped. Thank you.

Try NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use iPhoto or any other photo cataloging program.

Let's stop before you get in the bad habit of using bad software in the first place. Please see the following blog article, as it describes the use of a card reader as a much easier, faster, and less error prone way to download your photos. In fact there are several important reasons discussed in the article for using a card reader vice downloading from the camera. USB Card readers are also very inexpensive these day, with cost virtually not an issue:
