Question about Bosch 1199VSR 8.5 Amp 1/2 Inch Hammer Drill

1 Answer

I used my 1199VSR without the right size extension cord (too small of a A.W.G. size) but dont recall a burn smell. When using the extension cord it was working fine then started going slow and then it stopped working all together. I'm thinking it's the armature.

Howdy, I am willing to confirm what I believe you already know; it's cooked. Now about fixing it You can do it yourself with bosch parts for almost the cost of the drill, or have it done for somewhere between free and ? by Bosch depending on how long you have had it. Bosch has a prorate form of warranty repair that sometimes works out really well.

Whichever way you choose to go, this link will help you it get dealt with pretty darn quickly:

Hope this helps some:)

Smell of rubber or plastic burning when in use.

Does your unit have a power nozzle?-- could a belt be slipping at the floor nozzle?

When does the smell begin-- Immediately-- or after running awhile?

Do you feel anything in the power cord that is HOT?-- or the wall plug?
(You are not using an extension cord, right?)

Tell us more about the machine, and when and where you notice the smell the most--

Used extension cord on freezer then it stopped getting cold.

never use a extension cord unless it is of a larger gauge wire size eg: #12. as opposed to standard #16 or #14. the compressor/motor will not get needed power and burns out.

WHAT SIZE EXTENSION CORD FOR GA7021 SHOULD I USE AND MAX LENGHT? BURNING UP GRINDERS

Well for 15A the minimum wire size in your cord should 14 gauge, Length can't really be specified but you want to go for less resistance in the cord, thicker wire and less length will give you less resistance (more so thickness). If your grinder works fine without the extension cord, I would recommend getting a heavy duty extension cord with 12 gauge wire and trying that.

Does not run any longer....smells like it is burning...

probable not worth repairing, if it smells then it got hot and might have melted the windings on the armature or field,, but take a look inside the handle area for any signs of burning and check the condition of the brushes before buying new one.

Air cond & electrical outlet in 1999 sprinter by keystone 33 ft

One of your breakers in your main panel should be for either one of those. Simply test receptacle for power as you try flipping each breaker off and on, until you find the right one. Quite often a high amperage draw item like electric frying pan, or hotplate plugged into the one by the kitchen area is the culprit. If they smell, or appear burnt or scorched, they should be changed, as well as the entire circuit tested for proper size wiring, as well as rated receptacle to handle big power( amperage draw). Extension cords will also cause same problem. Make sure if you have to use an extension cord, that is a heavier gauge wire, approved for that use, and is as short as possible. I'm assuming your AC is plugged in to a receptacle, and not on roof?

This may seem a bit simplistic but how are you hooked up to the outlet? Are you using an extension cord or is the compressor plugged in only using the supplied power cord?
If you are using an extension cord then you are going to pop the breaker every time you use it. Infact the manual states

"Never use an extension cord with this product. Use additional air hose instead of an extension cord to avoid power loss and
permanent motor damage. Use of an extension cord voids the warranty."
Air compressors don't like extension cords.
It simply draws to much for an extension cord to handle.
Depending on whether or not your warranty is out there is a simple solution. Find the biggest gauge extension cord you can

If your not using an extension cord and it's ran in the past where it's plugged in now then check the circuit because there must be new draw on the breaker

You said the breaker is 20amp. correct? The compressor should be run on a breaker dedicated to the compressor only.

Even though you should use a longer hose instead of a longer power cord you can get away with it. But forget about wire gauge size you need to think wire diameter. The extension cord I made for my compressor is approximately 3/4" thick. That is the only way I was able to use an extension cord on mine. A good place to get that size cable is a boat supply store. The cable used for shore power on boats works.
Hope this helps but if not please let me know and I'll try and help anyway I can to solve your problem.

Question:
*All Heaters*-Where can I get parts for my heater? Answer: Unfortunately, we do not have any replacement parts available online for heaters. You can obtain parts by calling consumer relations at 800-332-1110. The only parts currently available are replacement wheels for oil filled heaters. If you are looking for any other parts, please call us or send an email to ConsumerRelations@kaz.com and let us know the model number of the heater, the length of time you have owned it for, and a detailed description of what is wrong with it.   Question: All Heaters-Can I use an extension cord with my heater? Answer: You should avoid the use of an extension cord as it may overheat. However, if you have to use an extension cord , be sure it is a polarized cord of 14 AWG minimum and rated no less than 1875 watts.

I could find no recall on you product. They do not supply parts. I am sure you can match up the plug and cord at any good hardware or appliance parts store. Are you sure it is the cord?  The element could be shorted out.
DO you have an ohm, meter or small batter light tester to tes t the cord and eliments with?
