Acer Aspire 5920 no power, been told it has a power plug and clip which does not need solidering, would i be able to just remove the back and do this? i have no experience whatsoever!!!

try to remove cables and battery , then press and hold the power button for 8 secs. Reinsert the cables and battery back, then turn it on. If no power, then that propels you to contact Acer for repair because power supply won't work on your laptop..

Try remove the battery and unplug it from the AC. Hold down the power button for 35-45secs. plug AC back and see if you can power it back on. If not, the motherboard is shot.

Just to make sure:
1. With battery alone in notebook, and no power cable, do you get power?

2. With the battery taken out, and power cable plugged in, you do get power?

IF YES to the above two questions
... and u can get power using the power cable but not using the battery, then your battery is dead and u need a new one.

there a small hole nearby dvd button, is the emergency realase mecanism. you need a small paper clip, need to open-it and use on the hole, pushing slowly until the door open.

Your power supply or regulator in you laptop has gone south. sorry no quick fix for this one. It needs repaired and would include tracking down soldered connections.

Thanks for using FixYa. You will need to reset the Laptop if it is not starting up. Follow the procedure as under to reset it---

Remove all connections to and from the laptop. Now remove the battery and press and hold the power on button for 2 minutes. Release the power on button. Slip in the battery pack. Plug in the power to the laptop and to the wall. Please do not plug in any other devices and now try the Laptop powering it on to resolve the issue.

Remove the battery and the power adapter, wait 5 minutes, plug in the power adapter and try turning it on, if it doesn't turn on, remove the power adapter, plug in the battery and try starting up again, if it still doesn't work plug in the power adapter, try starting up.

Is the power adapter working? does it have a green led on it that shows that its powered?

Your motherboard is probably shorting out your A/C adapter, you may need a new motherboard. With a Dell, the A/C adapter light will be green when plugged into the wall but as soon as you plug it into the PC the green light goes off. Which means that the Motherboard is shorting out the A/C adapter...

The power button may not work, that is most common in laptops, or you have a short.
