SOURCE: atari 2600 fuzzy screen

Hello, Are you using a newer flat panel or and older TV? IF you are using a newer TV the picture will never look very good. IF not, did you try working with the RF adapter? Check all connections. If all else fails try to get another RF adapter to see if that helps. I remember this being a bit problematic even when these were new. Wish I had a definite answer for you! Good Luck - Dr. Know

SOURCE: 2600 atari

To connect your Atari to your TV, you'll need to get a "phono to f" adapter. These are available at RadioShack (part no. 278-255) for about $5.00 This adapter takes the phono plug from the Atari and changes it to a standard coaxial adapter. If your HD TV doesn't have an input for standard cable wires, you'll need to get yourself an RF modulator to switch the coax to RCA. If you have an old VCR with an unused cable input, that will work as well.

SOURCE: Atari 2600 Console Power Adapter

The Atari 2600 adapter has the following information on it:

Input: 120V AC 60Hz 12W

Output: 9V DC 500mA

Positive tip

Make sure you test the power supply before you use it. I have 2 original atari power supplies, and they are both putting out about 15V DC, which may be why my atari's aren't working anymore!

SOURCE: Atari 2600 does not have picture when turned on.

The signal is output at 56MHz or 60MHz depending on the channel you use. Normal tv is around 350MHz to 700MHz so you need to got to the bottom range to tune. Also check that the contacts of the game catridge are not black looking, if so clean with some alchol to remove the soot build up, this will make sure the screen is outputted in proper format.

Try switching to a different channel. The Atari 2600 supports channels 2 and 3, you want to pick the one that is not broadcasting in your area. If your TV has "auto-tuning" you may need to manually add channel 2 or 3 (whichever you pick) to see it on the TV.

I just got an Atari 2600 and the hard wired video cable's male connector is broken. is there a way to fix this? The cable is hard wired to the Atari.

I think that you need a new video cable then that should fix the problem if not then
it would be an internal issue with the console.

I dunno if this place has what you are looking for. The look in pretty mint condition from the pictures.

This other website has an interesting Atari collection, but I don't think he's selling. But interesting to look at.

Atari 2600 Jr. Video Issue

You can't run a 2600 on composite. Even though the connector looks the same it isn't. You need a RF modulator to seperate the signals and you need an old school one that has a manual switch on it. Check at Radio Shack they carry things like that.

Modulators with AV jacks like I use for watching my DVD on when I only have a coax on my television won't work becuase the atari line doesn't separate the signal outside the box by audio and video. That wasn't something being done 30 years ago. In fact it wasn't being done until NES came out.

If Radio Shack doesn't carry it you can probably find one on E-Bay.

You can always find classic Atari 2600 games for your PC. I know I play the Activision Games that way from time to time.

Good luck on that.

ARTARI 2600 HOOK-UP INFO?

yeah its the right thing. Hook the RF Modulator to the cable connector on the back of your TV. (the one with the threads) and hook the cable from your Atari (its a AV cable) to the RF Modulator. set the little swithch on your Atari to chanel 3 or 4, then set your TV the the same channel and enjoy your Retro Gaming goodness (I Love My Atari 2600)
