Question about Denon AVR-2802

1 Answer

I own a Denon AVR-3200 circa 1998. No sound output. Red "Standby" light constantly lit. Tried unplugging the power cord (not the other cables attached to powered units) and light remains red. Solutions?

If the light is staying on after you unplug the AC power this means you have a short in the loop some where that is giving power to the receiver.

Try unplugging all connection to the receiver except for your speakers. Next hold down the power button for 45 to 60 seconds. Doing this will clear the flee power off the system board. Next plug back in the AC adapter and the receiver should turn on. If it does not then there is a problem with the receiver it self. If you did have a device shorting/grounding out to the receiver over time it would have damaged the receiver.

Let me know how things go

No power output or display.green standby light flashes.

Sounds like either a blown mainpower fuse or the thermal fuse for the power transformer. If the protect circuit was kicking in, the display would light up, but then turn off with a red blinking light. the green light with no display means the transformer is not getting power.

Denon AVR-3200 wont go into standby mode

Not sure what you mean by standby mode. The power button on most of the audio remotes I deal with merely turns the equipment on and off.

My Denon AVR-75 seems to stay in standby (red standby light is on) and I don'd get surround sound through it. How do I get it out of standby?

if the receiver does not power on from standby there is a problem like bad power supply or even bad macroprocessor. You need to bring it to a service center for diagnosing. 10-years old receiver, maybe better to buy new one.

Seems to be some sort of power problem since the READY light is no longer on, and therefore the remote control cannot turn the receiver on, nor can pressing the power on button turn it on.

If there is no standby light. Open the top cover and check the fuse on the primary power side. MAKE SURE THE POWER CORD IS UNPLUGGED.There are two transformers in this model. A small one for standby and a large one for the main section.A relay clicks when you touch the power button and switches on the large transformer and the display comes on. If there is any problem in the output stage the the relay will click and the system will go into standby again.

I have an avr 3200 can it use 2 coaxial inputs and how good is the sound quality compared to newer avrs

Denon being one of the best names in the biz and this being an upper-crust modfel, I'd say anyone without a 'golden-ear' would be hard pressed to t\distinguish its sound from any other amplifier in existence.

The Denon site doesn't list and AVR-3200, but the AVR-3300 has 1 coaxial digital audio and 3 optical digital audio inputs.

If you're looking to run multiple coaxial devices and there aren't enough inputs this is what I do...

Helpful hint: Coaxial digital audio cables can be joined using an RCA cable splitter so they can share a given input or distribute a given output to multiple places. You just have to remember to have only the DESIRED units turned on when sharing or there will be digital confusion on the buss and it will result in silence or horrendous noise.

Denon AVR 1601 with no sound output

Sounds like Audio ouput ic's. They're located on the inside of the unit on the big heatsink. get the part number(s) of them and call you local electronics store for parts.

Standby light stays red and will not turn unit on.

Try to reset the macroprocessor. Unplug the unit from AC, hold both buttons SPEAKER A and SPEAKER B and plug the cord in outlet. After display flashes several times release the buttons. No result? - repair shop.

It's likely that you have shorted some speaker outputs, I had that problem and sorted it. Unfortunately it does mean replacing some output transistors..the devices are dificult to get to just to add insult to injury. They are the devices that are mounted directly onto the large heatsink and solder connected to the bottom circuit board. You only have to change the matched pair that you have blown....tricky to identify which ones without some electronics knowledge. The power output section does have some fuses to protect it but sadly these do not appear to be fast enough to stop "one" from damaging the power output stage if you unfortunately short outputs. The transistors are available from Farnell, use pin compatible replacements SAP15N and SAP15P.....all the best. Doctor Bill
