Hi,
If you are having problems with your gas dryer not heating the most common problem is that the ignitor goes bad. Even though it glows sometimes it is still not working properly.

if you dryer is gas check out this gas no heat tip....

If you have an electric dryer, you can have many different things that can go wrong causing the dryer not to heat.

check out this electric no heat tip...

I have a GE dryer model #DCVH660EH3BB, it powers on but when I press the start button it beeps twice at me and won't start the cycle. The lint trap and vent have both been thoroughly cleaned.

From the manual...
Problem
Cannot make a selection and the dryer beeps twice.

Possible Cause
The DRYNESS LEVEL, TEMP or OPTION that you are trying to select is incompatible with the chosen dry cycle.

Link to your manual, troubleshooting starts on page 24.

DRYER NOT DRYING CLOTHES ALL THE WAY FILTER IS CLEAN AND CLEANED OUT THE LINT TRAP AND COVER. NO CODE GIVEN. HAVE TO RUN TWO CYCLES.

Clean the exhaust duct. The ENTIRE duct, from where it attaches to the dryer to where it exits the house... Failure to dry clothing when you have heat is an air-flow issue

Power indicator lights up but there is no power

Remove exhaust hose. Clean out lint. Remove back of dryer. Clean lint out of air flow system including lint and heat unit(coils). Try dryer. Is heat element glowing red hot? If not, replace heat element. They burn out intermittently and need lots of air flow to have good life. Clogged lint traps shorten life cycles. Definitely a DIY project. See youtube for general process.

Dryer heats short time when first started then no heat rest of cycle

Hi there,

Well if it's a gas dryer and if your dryer tumbles, but there is no heat or less heat then you may please check out the following -
1. First of all you can check out for proper air flow - Check the vent for proper air flow by placing your hand over the exterior vent while the dryer is running. You should feel a strong flow of air. If not then check the lint trap. It is located either on top of the dryer or possibly just inside the door. Remove any lint that has built up in the lint trap. Cleaning the lint trap should be done regularly, even as often as after every load. Do not operate the dryer without a lint trap in place.
2. Secondly you can check out the Ignitor - gas dryer blows air through a burner assembly to heat the air. The burner assembly consists essentially of a gas valve, ignitor and a flame sensor. If any part of the burner assembly malfunctions, the result will be low or no heat and slow drying of the clothes. Post comments for further help or information and please don't forget to give some information about the brand and model number.....

Good Luck!!

We have a WHIRLPOOL dryer model # KGYE670BWH3 and the problem is that when switching from a high to low temperature it stays high at hot rather then low temperature. but then after awhile it will go low.

Hi and welcome to FixYa. I am Kelly.

Lets talk about the physics of changing drying temps mid cycle. The dryer has built up an average temperature that is high when you had high selected. The clothes are hot. The drum is hot and the chassis / ducting is also hot. It can take almost 10 minutes for that residual heat to be removed before you notice that the drying temp has changed.

Having said that, there are a few things to check as to why it is taking an extended period to dry your clothes and why the dryer seems to be running hot.

1. Check the outside dryer vent flapper for lint build up.

2. Check the ducting for lint fromt he dryer exit to the outside vent flapper.

3. Remove the lint filter and look for lint build up around the lint filter ducting. (if it needs cleand do NOT use anything sharp to remove the lint.) A vacuume crevice tool and an old coat hanger folded in half works great.

After checking all of the above and making sure they are ALL clean, try your mid cycle change again an see if it takes less time to notice a difference.

If it is still taking a long time there may be a problem with the temp selector switch.

That is it for now.

Thanks for using FixYa.

It shuts off before the cloths are dry

Most likely either the lint trap needs to be cleaned out, the exhaust piping needs cleaning or you have faulty heat sensor / circuit breaker.

Be sure to clean the lint trap before every load may even try cleaning it out half way through the cycle too.

Good luck.

I CAN HAVE MY DRYER ON THE HOTTEST SETTING AND IT GETS HOT BUT TAKES LIKE 3 TIMES THROUGH A CYCLE TO DRY MY STUFF

I would first pull the exhaust hose or pipe off and check for blockage or a kink. If its getting hot then its probably an air flow issue. Also make sure the lint trap is clean. Sometimes you can get the crevice attachment for a vacuum down in the lint trap area far enough to clean any excess lint out. Check where the dryer exhausts outside for a blockage like maybe birds nest or bees hive. I hope this helps.

Gas dryer heats fine but shuts down before the drying cycle is over taking longer to dry clothes. Lint trap and exhaust tube cleaned out.

You are going to most likely need a vent cleaning. The dryer is getting too hot and shutting off because it is not exhausting good.
