Question about Linksys WRT120N Router

2 Answers

I have a linksys 120n and the router is dropping the wireless connection to a windows laptop. If you reboot the router, you get a connection for a while but then it drops it again. I changed the mtu from manual 1500 to auto on the router. This did not work! Any suggestions?

In addition to the info already posted, this a new router. The router was working good until I connected a Wii to the router. This when the problems started. The Wii has since been removed from the network, but know I have this connection issue.

Hi. Check your computer if it has a software that will do a conflict with windows wireless software. This softwares are the one that came pre installed with the system. My question is, do you have other computer that can connect to this router that is having the same issue. If yes, then this could be a router problem. If you are not getting thios problem with other computer then this could be a computer problem. The wireless adapter on that computer might be acting intermittently and need to be replaced.

The problem is usually the router starting to fail. I myself have had a few units and customers as well.

If its under warranty, send it in, otherwise you will need to replace it. There are no fixes for this.

You might want to try updating the firmware, by most likely that will not help.

Hope that helps

do a full cold-reset on the unit. Hold the reset button for about 15 seconds, and then run the cd-install for the unit

First unplug your router, then unplug your modem and for 10 seconds. Next plug the modem back in and wait it to reboot(on mine this a series of 4 lights that light up in sequence, when the 4th light stops flashing, reboot is complete). Finally plug your router back in.

Problem connecting linksys wusb54g wireless to internet.

Sounds like you need to reboot the router and probably the cable modem. Unplug both, wait 30 seconds, then plug them back in. It can't hurt anything and it solves this problem 90% of the time.

Connection drop-outs

Is your laptop wireless adapter a compatable brand. It doesn't necessarily mean the router is bad, you may even be getting RADIO interference from a cordlees or a cell phone in it's path. Do you have the capability to plug a cat-5 cable directly into your laptop from the router when you lose wireless? Check the wireless channels and see about changing the channel on your cordless phone too. May not work, just a hunch.

Good Luck

I can't get my new Vista computer to connect to my wireless network

I experienced a similar problem with a Vista laptop a few weeks ago. There were no apparent problems, so I uninstalled the wireless network adapter from the Windows "device manager" and then let it automatically reinstall the wireless adapter when it rebooted. The local wireless network appeared about 5 minutes after the reboot and has been working ever since.

If that doesn't help, try removing the Linksys software from your computer and try the network adapter remove/reinstall again.
