Pressure switch out of adjustment or no good. There are 2 adjustments on it, 1 for cut in and 1 cut out.

Leaking around Pressure Switch. Ordered & replaced switch but still leaking

Some pressure switches have a valve that reliefs the compressor head pressure when the motor stops and closes the head pressure relief valve when the motor runs.
There is a check valve that keeps air pressure from coming back to the compressor head and the relief valve.
I think the check valve is leaking tank pressure to the relief valve and compressor head.
The check valve is where the pressure switch mounts on to and it mounts threaded on to the compressor tank.
Try replacing the check valve

Pump is not shutting off, and pressure not building up

Hi Kendal

Here are a few things to check, you may have already checked some of these.

*Electricity...Compressors will run best with full 115Vot 15AMP/Or 220V electrical supply from a circuit, over the shortest electrical cord as possible.

*Air Leaks..Place your ear close to the compressor and listen for air leaking, if you hear air that is not normal and means you have to locate and repair whatever it is that is leaking.
*Check the air unloader valve... The air unloader valve will blown out air when you turned off the compressor, that is normal.
But it should not have air leaking out of it all of the time. If so then it is faulty and in need of repair/replacement.
*Valves...If either the intake or exaust valves fail, breaks, or fails to seat, then your compressor will run 24 hours a day and never build up to the correct pressure for shut-off.
*Gaskets...Check to see if your gaskets have failed.
You could have a gasket failure between the pistons and you will never know it because it shows no external air leak.
If this situation happens then the air will only cycle between cylinders and never build up the correct air pressure.
One way to check the gasket is remove the air filter, then put your hand over the intake.
If correct then it will **** you hand against the intake.
If the valve or valves have failed then you will feel the air sucking in and blowing out.
*Piston Rings and Cylinder...The piston rings could be stuck, broken, or worn and not allowing the correct pressure to build up in your tank.
A worn cylinder will also contribute to the problem of pressure build-up.
*Pressure Switch...Check for air leaks at the pressure switch, it has a rubber diaphram that can fail and leak air out of the system.
Please take time to rate me

Hello
Check that the pressure switch is installed correctly, meaning there is a in and out. There should be.
If not try turning the pressure switch around or installing it reverse of what it is now.

Also there should be an adjusment on the switch to stop it from releasing at a certin pressure.I think 150psi is max.Set it below.

Compressor motor keeps running and the tank relief valve opens and pressure is released. why will the motor not stop when pressure reaches 150psi

Hi,
The pressure switch has gone bad....there is a switch that is to stop it and then restart it on pressure...either the switch is bad or the tube is plugged...going to the switch.

Compressor motor only comes on and fills tank when tank is empty. When tank has any pressure it tries to start but stops.

there is a valve under the regulator, at switch off pressure the valve must blow of the air between cilinder and checkvalve after stop running.. when checkvalve is not closed it keeps blowing.

Hi. I just bought one and can't figure out how to get the pressure to start increasing? the power runs ok but the pressure is still at 0. thx

you could check the bleed valve.
it is located under the tank,
put on the unit and place your hand over the valve,
if there is air coming out of it then that is your problem.
some valves are made to tighten and some are made
to loosen. important stop the air from coming out.
if that is not the problem contact me for a next tip.

Compressor stops then leaks down to low setting

That little copper line is an unloading line, to bleed compressed air out of the compressor head so that the motor can more easily start the compressor. Pressor switch should be threadded into top of air tank, and the unloading valve is built into the side of the switch. When the tank reaches the high pressure setting the switch disconnects power to the motor and opens the unloading valve at the same time. The unloading valve should be connected to the compressor discharge line through a check valve with an unloading valve port upstream of the check valve. These valves are usually threaded into the top of the air tank as well. Sounds to me like your valve was leaking and someone bypassed it.

Craftsman compressor

these small compressors do not have a long life especialy if they are run for more than 15 min /hour , bet no body told you that when you bought it the ones with an iron barrel are better so to problem
1 piston rings worn or broken / replace
2 daft i know but air leaks/ when it is running you carn't hear a leak cos of the running noise, run it up as high as it will go switch off and listen /repair leak
3 sticking or passing valves , these are located in the cyl head /take filter unit off,run it when it comes up to 40 psi put your hand close to the inlet port if the inlet valve is passing you will feel a sort of chuff chuff on your hand ,switch it off ,if you can hear ,and feel air coming out of the inlet port the Exaust valve is leaking ,sadly these small comps are difficult and bloody expensive to get spares for"they want you to buy another one " so depending on the amount of use it has had it might not be woth while repairing hope this has been of some help

Problem with Bostitch air compressor Rilsan tube? Low pressure!

THE PRESSURE SWITCH HAS A RELIEF VALVE ON IT THAT DRAINS THE PRESSURE WHEN IT ELECTRICALLY SHUTS OFF. IT HAS A LEVER STICKING OUT THAT HITS A "SCHRADER" VALVE. COMMONLY KNOWN AS A "TIRE STEM" IN ANY VALVE STEM IN THE TIRE ON YOUR CAR. THIS VALVE COULD BE BAD OR THE LEVER STICKING OUT COULD BE BENT PRESSING ON IT ALL THE TIME. I WOULD REPLACE THE PRESSURE SWITCH, IT WILL FIX BOTH OF THESE PROBLEMS. TAKE YOUR SWITCH WITH YOU TO ENSURE YOU GET THE SAME THING (SIZE, PSI RATING, ETC) HOPE THIS HELPS. JODY

EC-12 runs but only builds to 35 psi and continues to run

It looks like there might be a knob which sets the max air pressure coming from the compressor. If there is one, this may have been turned down.

There are usually 3 pressure settings on an electric compressor. Compressor max, pressure switch cut on, and pressure switch cut off.
