I just had the same problem - all I did was remove an SD card (that had been in
the camera over a year with no problems) - and put it back in. Then when I turned
the camera on, a red screen appeared "Card had wrong format - press OK to format".

When I pressed 'OK' it said "Unable to format".

I tested the card in an external reader, and all the pictures were there.
I could offload them, and format the card just fine.

Solution:
What I found by peering down in the battery compartment with the card plugged
in, was that one of the gold contacts that that touches the pads on the card
seemed to protrude a little further out than the others, and looked just ever so
slightly twisted, as well. After removing the card, and looking down inside with
a very bright light, it appeared that contact finger had been bent over a bit when
I had reinserted the card. I used a fine metal dental tool with a tiny crook (less
than 1/16 inch) on the end to pull up on the contact from the center of where
it appeared bent, and sure enough, it straightened up to around a tenth of
an inch longer than it had been in its bent condition.
I reinserted the card carefully, observing all the time that the contact in question
was sliding up the side of the card with the pads on them, and not getting folded
under the leading edge of the card as I put it in.

Problem gone!

Go to your menu and settings for the card and format it. That way it will be fit for your camera again. (:

FOR means format the card. Try formatting the new card (choose Format in the Menu) and see if it then works. If not you may have a problem with the card holder or the circuit. Replacement card holders are available on Fleabay but replacing the card holder requires definite skill at soldering. Replacing the circuit requires proprietary software that is only available at Nikon

On some cameras, once you use the internal memory, you must format it and completely erase it before a regular memory card will work. With no card in the camera, go into the menu and find "format"...follow the on-screen instructions. Then, never use the internal memory again.

Hello, and thanks for using FixYa.

Please if the card contains any important pictures, connect it to a computer and copy them to the computer if they are not backed up. Then put the card in the camera and format the card in the camera, then you can connect it back to the computer, put those pictures in there and then the card back into the camera if that is what you wanted to do.

Note that the camera might not show your pictures, unless they are named the same way as original pictures taken with the camera.

How to remove write protect from olympus xd card

You don't state whether you've tried using the tiny switch located on the xD card to unlock it.

If it is already in the unlocked position then push it fully to the locked position and then fully back again.

If this does not work then please report back for additional options.

Hi my camera is not showing me pics after I'v taken them and is not saving them what can i do dont have manuel.

No doubt the xd card has not been formatted. In the menu there should be a tools tab or camera set up. Look for format and follow the prompts. Then prior to taking a photo, check to see on the screen how many pictures you can take. This will confirm the card is formatted and ready to accept the images.

Memory card problem

Sometimes flash memory can be exhausted, so to speak, and will stop functioning. This is all you can do to get your pictures back. After that try running a format and then the error check tools under the tools tab in the right click properties window.

Download a program called FreeUndelete from here and install it but before you open it, connect your MP3 player or insert your SD card. After you start the program up, select the drive letter that represents the memory you want to scan for deleted files.Click the scan button above the list and wait. If there's too many results, then look near the bottom of the window. There should be a"Filter found files" line where you can enter in the file type of the photos you lost. It probably should be this: "*.jpg" Once you have found the files you want to recover, create a folder you want to save them to in your My Documents folder and copy the path to that folder by right clicking on it then clicking properties. The path you need to copy is the line called Location (don't actually copy "Location: ".Just what's after it :p ) Now paste it in the line called "Undelete selected file(s) To" under the "Filter found files" line. Make sure you paste over the existing text. Finally, click the Undelete button to the right and Viola! check the files out in the folder you created in your My Documents folder.

Memory card problem

The only solution left is to get a card reader and insert the card in the card reader.

when the card is detected it will show a removeable drive in My Computer. Right click on the removeable drive and click on properties....now click on the the tab which says Tools......now under error checking click on Check Now......now click both the option that is Automatically fix the system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors.

After the scan is complete the card will work fine.

Memory card problem

Assuming your camera acts like a removable drive when connected to the PC try the following.

  1. Right click the removable drive(your camera) in my computer and go properties>tools>error checking>tick both boxes>ok
  2. Wait till it finishes and check if you can now view the contents of the card. And copy to safe place straight away.
  3. Try http://www.officerecovery.com/freeundelete/ to recover any deleted files or fragments of damaged files.
  4. Let me know if any of this works.
