When the DST short test fails it means you hard drive has failed. You need to get in contact with Dell and see if you can get the it repaired or replaced. You will have to pay for the repair if your computer is not under warranty or does not have the extended service plan on it.

In order to check if your warranty is still valid you can go to support.dell.com and look under Warranty Information - > Warranty Status or you can call dell technical support.

Had bluescreen a number of time, but laptop always booted up again. However i now have a black screen and nothing will boot up,even tried the dell recovery disc, but nothing. Any ideas? Thanks

Dell includes a series of tests for a system's hardware into the BIOS called the PSA+ Diagnostics. You can run these tests even if the system lacks any media (hard drive, CD drive, etc.). To launch the PSA+ Diagnostics on this system, perform one of the following actions:
  • Hold down the key while pressing the power button.
  • Turn on the system, press at the initial Dellâ„¢ logo screen, and select Diagnostics from the boot menu.
  • Disconnect the AC power and remove the battery. While holding down the power button, insert the AC connector into the back of the system. The system then starts and the message Diagnostic boot selected displays. The system then launches the PSA+ Diagnostics.
  • If all tests pass you will need to re-install the operating system software.

When I turn on my Dell XPS M1530 laptop, it shows a white screen that then fades slowly to gray and blue, instead of showing the bios. An external monitor shows the same. Anyone has had this issue and...

It seems you're having issues with the internal video card or motherboard. If you're not able to boot to bios it means your laptop didn't pass the POST (Power On Self Test). tried running the dell diagnostics.

here are the steps:

1. turn off the laptop.

2. while the laptop is off, press and hold down the FN key then press the power button. The dell diagnostics should come up. If nothing happens, you should call Dell to check more options.

Good luck,

Ryan

Computer wont start runs start up repair but nothing happens

Run diagnostics on the system by pressing Fn key and the Power button at the same time. I suspect the Hard Disk Drive is failing. If you get a failure code 2000-0142 thru 0146 the the HDD is bad

The power button blink and it just dont want to turn on

it could be a motherboard problem. try to run the Dell PSA Diagnostic by holding the FN key then press the power button while the computer is off. it should run the PSA Diagnostic and it will give you an error code. if nothing happens when you press the FN+power, call dell for possible hardware failure (motherboard).

Laptop will not start up properly

Just start up in SAFE mode. Then shut down normally. On the next boot, the computer should come up normally. (not in safe mode)

Dvd r/rw on Dell E1705 laptop computer quit playing cds and dvds. Makes grinding start up noise but does not play

Hi,
Your system comes with on-board diagnostics. Run the diagnostics to check if the problem is with the drive or windows.

To run the diagnostics follow the steps below
1. Shutdown the system
2. Press the Fn+Power button together
3. The screen will display color screens
4. Follow the prompts until it takes you to advanced diagnostics
5. Do a custom test on the optical drive.

If you are unable to run the diagnostics
1. Find the dell resource cd that came with the system
2. Insert the cd in and restart the computer
3. At the Dell logo screen press the f12 slowly 5 times
4. Select boot from cd/dvd drive
5. Press any key to boot from cd .... message appears press enter
6. If the system starts from the cd .. this would mean the drive is ok

pOst back what were the diagnosis
Thanks

Dell Inspiron 5160 wont turn on

I would suggest that first try running the psa test on ur system which could b done by press and hold FN key and power button together and leave it as soon as u see anything on the screen or any led in case u get any error code or beep sounds then it has to do with hardware and u ned to contact dell in case ur system is still under warranty.which lights do u see come up when u press the power button.I guess u r talking abt the led's for capslock , numlock and scroll lock.try reseating the memory module from the system and try running ur system on one memory chips and vise-versa because it seems that may b the prob is with the memory sticks.
in case u want manual for removing the memory sticks try using support.dell.com and u would get the manuals from there.

Restart always

sounds like a reload of the operating system, and or your hard drive is corrupt. See if it will boot into safe mode (F8) on startup. You can also run diagnostics on it by holding down the FN key when you push the power button and see what happens.
