Question about Craftsman Air Tools & Compressors

1 Answer

I have a 60 Gallon compressor, and recently it is taking a long time for it to come back up to pressure (150 p.s.i.). It is running so long that the motor is getting hot and beginning to smoke. No leeks and the compressor is fairly new (2 years old). What to do?

Looks like the piston springs are weak and you practically get not efficient compression rate. Bad piston cylinder lubrication could be the cause of your problem. In any case Piston head must be opened for visual check and confirmation.

If the motor doesn't shut off at the desired pressure then your pressure switch is either set too high or is broken/stuck. The pressure leak at 150 psi is the safety valve doing its job opening when the pressure gets to an unsafe level in the tank.

Sounds like a pressure switch to me. I would like to ask you a few more questions, let me ask you this, is the tank set at 60 Psi or the regulator? You can email me at phoenix.repair@hotmail.com for faster response time.

Shut off before it reaches 150 psi turned up the regulator up but it stops about 60 psi should go to 150 psi

the air regulator only regulates the flow of the air as to how much. their is a pressure switch that turns on and off the power to the compressor when it reaches it's set pressure.
follow the plug wire to a small box this should have the switch arm you flip to start it.
remove the cover with the unit un-plug.
there will be a spring with a nut on top tightening this nut or loosening it will adjust when the pump will cut off.
the best way is to test by adjusting one way and watching the pressure till it hits the desired rating you want.
if it keeps pumping un-plug the unit then back off the nut or tighten till you hear a click then plug the unit back in it should not run then.
drain the air and re try the unit it should cut off at the pressure then if so your fixed look for burnt contacts if their black and have little craters on the contacts then that hole switch should be replaced and you can buy them at the presetting you need.
hope this helps

Compressor pressure only to 60 lb psi and no more

not sure but it sounds like the piston ring is worn out or you might have a bad valve.
p.s. its not your typical valve like in a car.

is it a wet compressor, check the oil.

No air pressure past 60PSI on a 125PSI Campbell Hausfield WL61110

Your comperssor is oilless type and suffers from short cylinder / piston life. When the compressor no longer reaches cycle pressure the cylinder / piston should be replaced. These parts are available at www.chpower.com I believe that the part number is wl210300aj. Not expensive, enjoy.
