I have a 1997 jeep grand cherokee and the radio doesn't work. I bought another and wired it with a universal adapter. It came on but the speakers don't work. I got ahold of the support for the new radio, and they had me hook up a speaker right to the wires off the new radio and it worked. They said if your vehicle has a built in amplifier you have to disconnect it before the speakers will work. I need to know where the amplifier is located and how to dicsonnect it.

You will need to trace the speaker wires to see if they are disconnected anywhere in the harness. are you sure the speakers are OK? Fopr wire locations on the radio try going to: http://www.installdr.com/ They list the pin locations and wore coding you will need.

Attach a known good speaker to any of the speaker wires...if it doesn't work the problem is inside the radio. You can locate another in a scrapyard or get an upgrade at any electronics outlet (don't forget adapter harness and faceplate cover if needed)
