Question about Whirlpool WED5300S Electric Dryer

1 Answer

I have a Whirlpool model WED5300VW0, electric dryer. It's only 1 1/2 years old. The other night, I had a load of laundry going, and discovered it was still running after almost 3 hours. The laundry was completely dry (and hot). I had set the dial to a little more than 'Energy Preferred' on the Accudry cycle. The dial seemed to have moved down to the 'Energy Preferred' level, and stayed there (as opposed to moving further down to 'Cool Down' and then off). The next day, I decided to try it again on the 'Timed Drying' cycle. I set it for 20 mins. The dial did move, but after about 1 hour, it was still running (and the dial was on 'Cool Down'). I checked the link trap, and the vent pipe, and everything was clear. I ran it again on 'Timed Drying' with the vent pipe disconnected, just to make sure, and same thing - it just kept running. Any ideas? Does it sound like the Timer unit is bad? Is there another way to test it? Is it easy to replace? Thanks very much for any advice.

If your dryer is not drying like it once did or if you just have not taken the time to give yourself a clean dryer in a long time then you need to do that. At least once a year the dryer cleaning should take place. Lint build up in the dryer duct is one of the main causes for your dryer to fail.

Whirlpool electric dryer not drying

If the drier drum is still turning I would suspect a separate fuse is open for the heating element. Checking this may require openning the back cover. It may also be a defective or open heating element.

Moisture sensor not working

Once I discovered that the problem was not the dryer, I went into my crawl space and discovered the plastic duct was clogged with lint. Apparently the duct was not changed since the house was built over five years ago! The 4" duct was also duct taped to a 3" connector. Additionally the line ran into the crawl space at a 90 degree angle in a space that was only 2" wide! My husband adjusted the way the line ran into the crawl space and replaced it with a rigid aluminum duct. The auto sense works on my dryer and it takes only 30 min. to dry a load of laundry instead of 1-1/2 hours!

Dryer will not start after bulb burned out.

moch, the fact that the light is staying on when the door is closed leads me to believe that the door switch is the culprit. If that switch is not made you will not start. See if the pin is broken off. Start there and let me know. Catriver.

Same problem here, however I can assist the start by rotating the drum while pushing start. May be a capacitor problem???

Whirlpool Electric Dryer Won't Start

Your dryer has a non-resettable "thermal safety fuse" part number 3392519 which stops the machine dead when the temperature near the heater gets too high. Typically a restricted vent system causes this so you definitely want to check that before replacing it. A failed control thermostat can also cause this so check the operating temp too.
