Question about Kicker KX1200.1 Car Audio Amplifier

1 Answer

I have a KX1200.1 amplifier hooked up to a kicker 12in SoloX. Everything was working. I had an accident to the rear of my car, the amp was knocked off the mount to the back seat. But even after it was reinstalled it was working up until a month or so after. Now the amplifier isn't working, green lights on but no red light. I took my car over to best buy to have looked at, nothing wrong with the sub. Its gotta be the Amp but what? I believe the techy said the amp was on but that it wasn't putting anything out.I have a sneaking suspicion it has something to do with the surge protector. I'm dealing with insurance over this, they're trying to contest it wasn't from the accident. They want proof. I have an another appointment with best buy on saturday to open r' up. But i would love to hear ideas on what I might be looking for to prove it was part of the accident? What might pop out when the Amp is opened up? What parts would prove it?

Its most likely a dry joint. Some components have loosened other wise i doubt there could be a major damage to the amp.

First off, never, ever replace a blown fuse with a bigger one (especially one that is almost twice as big) unless it's an absolute emergency. Most of the time, the reason a fuse blows is because of a problem with the device (in this case, the amp). By installing a larger fuse, there's a very good chance the problem will become permanent (i.e. busted amp).

The amp could be going into an overcurrent mode when the bass hits and power cycling itself to try and reset the problem. If this is the case, take it to a local electronics repair shop and see what they can do.

It's also possible the input voltage to the amp is dropping too low during the bass hit, making the amp restart. Try putting a 1.0F or higher capacitor on the battery to buffer the power during the bass hits.

SOURCE: i think ma kicker kx1200.1 amp is blown or ma kicker L7 are gone

that would be the amp. sorry to say. when a wire crosses over, it sends a shock through the amp, there are a few things to try just to see if you fried the amp. the first thing to try is to move your ground to a different location. second thing to look at would be the fuses. alot of times the fuses will blow at the slightest shock. the amp will still turn on if you have an amp with 2 fuses, it just wont be getting all the power it needs, which could be causing your problem. also, it is worth the hour and a half to mount everything down in your vehicle. you might check the kicker website, because i have herd rumors that kicker offers a lifetime warranty on almost all of their products. best of luck, and i hope you didnt fry your amp.

SOURCE: Kicker 750.1 Amp wont play music

The wire you are needing to check is the Blue antenna wire that runs from the back of your deck to the amp. More than likely if you are getting a green light on the amp than that means this wire blew a fuse somewhere or blew the amp itself. I would say re-check all the fuses. (there should be one in front of battery wire and some on the amp) If these are still good and you are still getting green light but no sub than check the wiring for the box. I just had to re-wire my box because one of the cables came loose in the box. I have a Kicker 750.1 and a kicker 12" L7 so i understand what you mean... it just takes time and understanding. If everything fails and still it wont work.. than hook the amp up to a friends car and see the results.

Generally, if a Kicker amp has the power light lit and the protection light isn't lit, it's working. Are you sure that you have signal feeding the amp?

Are you sure your speakers are OK?

Sounds like the output transistors on the amp are blown. Were you slammin when it stopped or how did you find out it stopped working. It could be the sub failed then caused the ap to go which is why you get a little something from the JL.

you need an ignition noise filter available at radio shack. This electrical filter blocks "engine noise" to reaching your audio amp.
