Phillips Fax/Telephone Answering Machine

I've plugged in my machine just to send a fax, but don't have instructions of how. I've fed the fax to start face down?, I've dialed the number to send it, I get the fax connection sound, pressed Start and replaced receiver, but nothing happens!!!
