Call Bosch 800-642-3111
Multiple error codes can mean PC board failure.
AF might be A9, but not sure.
EA is 'no flame ionization detected with water flow'
  1. Verify that all manual gas shut off valves are open.
  2. Check gas type.
  3. Reset error code and open a water tap to cycle the heater in an effort to purge air on new installations. Cycling hot water tap on and off multiple times may be necessary. If heater still faults with EA error code, have a licensed gas technician properly purge air out of the gas line leading to the water heater.
  4. Check three wire connections to ignition group on the lower front of the heat exchanger are secure.
  5. Check gas pressure.
  6. Check venting specifications are met. Improper venting may cause premature failure of the flame sensor rod.
  7. Check that the minimum power fan speed has been adjusted to the proper value.
  8. Observe inside the viewing window of the heat exchanger when a hot water tap is opened. Sparking should be followed by a steady blue flame. If flame is unstable or yellow with proper gas pressure.

It sounds to me like you tried about everything I would. So I think you're already thinking about what I would do next. Try the flame sensor, and as last resort check all connection . Remove wires one by one clean and reattach. If all else fails change cotrol board. It's very hard to fix when it's not consistent. Good luck. Thanks

I have a Charmglow ventless fireplace. When I light the pilot the furnance will run properly until it reaches temp. then it shuts off the pilot goes out and requires relighting if it relights. I took your...

In any gas heating appliance there will be a thermocouple that sense if the pilot flame is lit (lighted?).
You bypass this with the regulator by holding the button temporarily and that allows you to light the main burner. If the thermocouple is bad (not uncommon- they sit in a hot seat all the time), it will disable the gas supply.
The thermocouple should normally measure nearly zero Ohms on a multimeter; if it doesn't, it's bad.
If the thermocouple checks out OK, then the regulator has failed.

Bosch SX 250 tankless water heater will attempt to fire 3 times then EA code. I have spark through viewing window. Read troubleshooting manual. Says Check ionization electrode. There is no part in the...

This is also known as a flame rectification sensor. It basically is what the computer board uses to detect if the pilot flame is lit. When it makes an attempt to fire is there any evidence of flame ignition? This error does not mean that the sensor is bad for sure. The error could be caused because the water heater is only making three attempts to fire and then shutting down. These water heaters are very complex and have many sensors, valves, ect that are all controlled by a computer board. Some of the basic things to check for are... Make sure that you have plenty of gas pressure. These units have a built-in pressure switch and will have issues if they are starved of gas. Most of these tankless water heaters are up to 400,000 btus and a half inch gas line or undersized connector won't work well. You can also check and make sure there is no pipe dope are debris stuck in the screen inside the gas line where it enters unit. Inspect the pilot assembly for debris or obstructions and try to blow out with compressed air. Also look for any loose electrical connectors on the board or to the sensors...one may have come loose.

Replace the thermocouple.

Thats the flame sensor.

If the gas valve is not sensing flame it will not stay lit.

T-couple's are about 9 bucks.

What error code do you get? I listed the Bosh telephone number below. They should be able to walk through it with you and diagnose it. Be prepared for long hold times though. I also listed the web site. There you can download the manuals and such. Good luck.
