Unable to reset VT47 after lamp and filter changed

The lamp exceeded the hours of service and after replacing the lamp and filter I cannot reset the projector by holding the POWER and EXIT buttons simultaneously as stated in the manual.
I continue to get an amber power light (static) and a static red lamp light.
Any suggestions as to how I can get this projector reset and back in use?
