Question about Linksys Wireless-G Broadband Router

2 Answers

I have a linksys wireless-G broadband router (3 1/2 years old). Which for some unexplained reason dropped the security passcode and is now unsecured. It otherwise is working fine. How can I set a new passcode to secure my wireless?? Thanks, Marcia

You will have to plugin a cable to it and login to it so you can set that. by default, linksys ip is usually 192.168.1.1. Put that into a browser window. you should get a user pass box pop up.
On older Linksys routers, the default username is blank and the default password is "admin." On newer Linksys routers, both the default username and the default password are set to "admin." Click through the menus and you will find the security area.

My Linksys router G is unsecure. 2 years old. How do I secure it. Linksys wants 35.00 to tell me or sell me a new one for 60.00 :)

To connect to your wireless router, the router's wirelesssettings needs to be configured with the SSID, encryption etc. and also thewireless cards in all the laptops/computers needs to be configured with theserouter's wireless settings. Then the laptops/desktop computers can communicatewith your wireless router.
Connect a LAN cable from the Linksys to the LAN port on your computer.
Open a browser and enter the Linksys configuration URL
http://192.168.1.1
The default login = admin
The default PW = admin
You can protect your router by changing the default admin PW (write it down andput it in a safe place)
Go to the wireless configuration and set up the SSID and WPA or WPA2encryption.
Apply these settings to the wireless card in your laptop/computer.

make sure that the linksys VOIP(secure) router is broadcasting it's SSID or signal, otherwise it will not reflect even if you refresh the wireless network. If the router is broadcasting SSID but the lenovo laptop is not detecting it, try to re-install the wireless software for the laptop using the software from lenovo.com, just click Support then Downloads and drivers.
