Question about JVC AV-56WP74 56" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television

1 Answer

I have a AV-56WP74. Recently it stopped working. If the unit is powered on, the speakers just thumped like a heartbeat. Then the power light just blinked. I found some solutions on this site. I found a 2.2 ohm resistor opened on the convergence power board. I replaced the resistor, plugged in the board, and the same thing happened. I can unplug the the 2 plugs on the left (looking in from the front) turn the TV on, and the unit works, audio is perfect, but the picture is bent, doubled, and basic convergence issues. What is the next thing to replace or check? IC's, other board,...etc? Thanks.

Sounds like the TV needs some type of serivice. But just to cover your bases try unplunging it from the power from the wall and let it rest for about 5 minutes. Then plug it back in to the power and try to turn it on using the power button on TV rather then the remote. See if that works. If it doesnt call JVC.

Check all of the large resistors on the convergence board. Usually at least one will be fried. Most likely, the 2.2 ohm if I remember correctly. Of course, make sure all the plugs are correct and plugged in.

Could be shorted convergence chips. There are two of them in the TV. If they short they will shut the TV down. One quick test is to desolder both of them...then power the TV on..if it fires up the chips were shorted and would need to be replaced. You can get a complete kit from www.TvRepairKits.com

Our JVC 56in rear projection tv cut off and when we tried to turn it back on is makes a thumping sound and the blue light on the front blinks and the thumping sound gets louder... Help??

The problem is one of the video drive IC's on the crt boards is bad. These IC's are located behind the front speaker grille. The board connected to the bottom of the crt's will have these ic's on them. They will be screwed into a metal "heatsink" The part number is TDA6111Q

Thumping speakers - no power light is on - wired correctly

the amp is going into protect mode due to something wrong in the amp or some thing in the wiring to it ooh yea if you are getting 18v power to the amp that is way to high it should not be higher then 15v if the amp is in protect mode it will not play at all.

Amp Power light will not go on. Protection light is lit- Thump sound in speakers

It probably has shorted output transistors. To eliminate other possible causes, read through the following page.

Check the pins on the convergence ICs to make sure the solder isn't bridged between any two pins. You will need a magnifying glass to make certain.
