Question about Hitachi 51SWX20B 51" Rear Projection Television

RK46 Changed - Still have clicking diode then the board dies.

Hello again Slinteriors,
I replaced that RK46 resistor with an exact duplicate from union electronics http://www.ued.net/website/index.html. I still have the diode (D940) clicking several times when I power up then the board just goes dead again. The flyback transformer looks like heat has possibly been surrounding it. It looks brownish around the base. Is this the next thing to wonder about? If so, are these repairs better left to the professionals. It looks a little more involving that the other stuff. I visually searched and inspected the entire board and the other 2 boards for bad resistors or any signs of failure but seen none. I visually rechecked my soldering of the IC's and the resistor with a 10x magnifier and everything looked great. I downloaded the service manual from your site so thank you for that great service and also thank you for all your help up to this point. If there is any other direction you would take your help would be greatly appreciated.
Bye fr now and thank you again.
Dan

Thank you again for your assistance... It is frustrating for me to ask questions, I know your time is valuable. But the simple troubleshooting you described is not simple to a PC Tech like myself. Here goes... How do I check the standby voltages? I have a voltmeter I use when troubleshooting PC's. I just do not know what the readings should be or where to probe on the TV mobo. Also, what should the readings be when correct or incorrect? Are there any articles at FixYa that I can read for a better understanding of the troubleshooting process? I have searched and searched this site and others but cannot find much of anything that describe how to troubleshoot. If I need to sign up for premium service to compensate you I can do that too. Let me know how I can help you. At this point It sure would be great to push the button and have the TV back. I have no problem paying a Pro to fix it at this point because I just want it working again but, It sure would be a great feeling to know I did it with the help of people like yourself and the internet.
    Thank you very much again,
    Daniel Shantz

P.S. If you ever need any computer help just email me.

I have 1993 46 in rear projection, with the exact same problems, pls email me if you find the solution. I bet there are a lot of others out here as well! I don't think your problem is in the circiutry, I think it's in the transformer, but it's just a guess. Let me know how it goes? Thanks Troy

I would check the standby voltages and see if they are correct and then move on from there. The flyback will usually have signs of heat around them, however that model really isnt famous for trouble some flybacks. I would check the supply voltages for sure that could give you a better leg to stand on as far as determining if a repair tech should be called in or not

You have all the resistor are correct! Yes I can Tell you exactly what you need to know and How to Save settings after you adjust convergence, I have to pull out my manual on your hand unit Be right back. first you need to go to front of TV remove front bottom panel to where you can see the front of chassis on the board you replaced ICs there is a small blue contact button with TV on press and hold for 5secs Convergence Pattern should appear! You will need your hand unit to begin to adjust convergences.

rk46 is 1.8 ohm resistor---rk54 is the same value, rk 62 is 2.2, and Rk 42 is 3.3 ohm. It does not matter which direction it is installed---it is a resistor

If you have any questions feel free to let me know.

Basscube 10 dead...need zener and resistor help

The zener diodes are 1N4774, I believe they are one watt. Try 3 watt metal oxide for the resistors. You might as well replace the 6800uF 63 volt main filter capacitors and the 220uF 50 volt capacitors while you're at it. Half the time the heat that cooked your other parts takes them out as well.

Problem with stk's & low olm resistors on 55 in. Sharp

It's always best to remove one leg, however there tolerance is so close you should be able to get an exact ohm reading, and I mean exact. Some are connected in parallel so if they're 6.8 ohm then you'll read 3.4. What is the number of the STK's you changed?
Yes, I would replace them again.

1.5 ohm resistor rk 46 keeps blowing

You should have put the original OEM STK's in the set - if your set had 110's or 120s put those chips only. Do not risk different chips with different specs/amps/ etc....when you do resistors blow as you have discovered.
