Question about Culligan Sediment Water Filter

1 Answer

My sediment filter is leaking where the bottom screws into the top. Never had this problem before. I made sure there was not mineral buildup on the threads or where the surfaces come together. I would like to turn the water back on.

The o-ring is either pinched, rolled over, cut or missing and needs to be replaced. Take the housing off, check the o-ring, clean it thoroughly, turn it over, lubricate and re-install if it is ok. If not o-rings are available for pre-filter housings at any water treatment dealer and most hardware stores.

How to get rid of the sediment at the bottom of my glass from the ice

The sediment is the result of the minerals in your tap water precipitating to the bottom of the glass after the drink has sat for awhile. The minerals in the ice cause you ice to be cloudy and not clear. The only way to reduce or eliminate the sediment is to filter the water going to your ice maker and water dispenser.

Clean an iron:
  1. Unplug the iron and make sure it is cool before cleaning.
  2. Use a toothpick or pipe cleaner to remove buildup in the steam vents, making sure the debris doesn't fall into the vents.
  3. Use a fine sewing needle to carefully clean the spray nozzle of mineral deposits.
  4. To flush sediment from a steam iron, pour 1/2 cup water and 1/2 cup vinegar into the water tank. Place the iron on a rack over a broiling pan and set the iron to steam until the tank runs dry. Repeat if necessary. Or follow the instructions for using a commercial iron cleaner.
Service the steam and spray mechanism:
  1. Unplug the iron.
  2. Use a fine sewing needle to unclog the steam valve assembly. Also, check the valve spring and replace it if it is broken or has lost tension.
  3. If the spray pump is accessible, remove it and check for leaks by placing the spray tube in water and squirting the pump. Clean or replace as needed.

Cold water fills very slowly

It's possible that sediment or a mineral buildup is in the water solenoid valve itself where you connect the hose. Try cleaning its screen, if this doesn't work, replace the part.

Clean a metal soleplate:
  1. Unplug the iron.
  2. Use a sponge and commercial soleplate cleaner or baking soda and water to remove dirt buildup on the soleplate. Rinse well with water and dry. Don't use harsh abrasives or immerse an electric iron in water.
  3. Use very fine steel wool (0000) or an emery cloth to remove scratches and burns on the soleplate, then clean the soleplate.

The triple filter system on the bottom of our Miele dishwasher will not come out as it suggests in the instruction manual (by turning counterclockwise and lifting up)

I had the same problem. I suspected it was a mineral buildup, and poured distilled white vinegar into the bottom of the dishwasher to help loosen it up. After about 10 minutes, I was able to turn the handle and remove the assembly. It looked to me like is was a detergent buildup - not as tough as mineral. The overall design is not the greatest, and it is easy to overly force the handle, which will come off in your hand. It would probably be wise to remove it every month or so just to keep it turning.

Sediment falling off heating element. Is this normal, or do I need to replace the heating element?

Hi,
That is normal mineral buildup... in fact many of the element are made to flex a bit to cause the mineral to fall off of them so they don't get too insulated and burn up...

How do I change the o ring at the top of my sediment filter, it's leaking water on the bypass switch

On the top of the head is pressure which is depressed to relieve the pressure off housing. Inside the head ( when you unscrew the bowl) is a screw, spring and small o-ring as part of the pressure relief button. First see if the screw is loose and tighten. If not you can take this apart, inspect and repair as needed.

Briggs and Stratton pressure washer fuel leak

You've hit the nail on the head. The float, needle and seat are stuck wide open.Once the carburetor bowl is full of fuel the float rises up on top which pushes the needle back into the seat shutting of the flow of fuel.As the engine consumes that fuel the float drops and opens the needle and seat filling the bowl and shutting off the fuel again.Things that cause this process to not work are:forgetting to empty or run out the fuel before storing it for the winter.Sediment buildup in the bowl.Mineral deposits in the needle and seat.
Not emptying out the carb can leave water in the bowl which freezes, crushing the float. It also promotes sediment buildup and mineral deposits. The float when crushed or cracked will not float, nor shut off fuel.Sediment takes away capacity of fuel in the bowl, very necessary for wide open throttle.Mineral deposits build up to the point that the needle and seat can't make a good seal so fuel will continue into the carburetor.
Enough information yet?
To repair, take the nut off the bottom of the carburetor bowl. There are the float and needle and seat assemblies. All three need to be replaced,$10 max. After you get the parts replace one piece at a time so you can see how they go together.Next replace the spark plug, engine oil and air cleaner. They are fuel fouled and even if you could get the engine started will only add more damage to your engine.BEFORE you put the new plug in cycle the engine by pulling the starting cord a few times to get rid of the excess fuel. When there's now more fuel in the cylinder replace the plug, filter and oil.
That's it!Take your time and you can do it just fine.Re-post if you have any more troubles.
