Question about Toshiba 42H81 42" Rear Projection Television

2 Answers

I have a rear projection Toshiba TV model 42H81. The unit does not have a HDMI connection, however, it has two(2) Color-Stream HD1 & HD2 component connections. One I use for a Bell Satellite HD RVR receiver and it works great. I would like to purchase the new Apple iTV video streaming unit. However, it only has an HDMI connection. Is there a solution available that would allow me to connect this TV to the new Apple iTV unit?

Thank you for the response. I don't quite understand. I believe the signal going to my TV will be coming from the Apple iTV box which only has an HDMI connection along with an Optical Audio connection. Will I need a converter that will accept the HDMI connection from the Apple unit and convert the signal to Analog with a component cable connection to my TV.

The optical audio connection will go directly from the Apple unit to my surround sound system. This system has an Optical Audio connection.

    You comments are appreciated.

Hello

There are a few solutions for you out there. you could use a product like this one: COMPOSITE/SVIDEO to HDMI converter

There is also a product like this that will allow you to take a HDMI connection and still have it feed into your computer with the cables you have already plus it will keep it at 720P this way.. You can get it here:converter

Keep in mind these are a bit pricey but there are cheaper solution out there. They will do near the same job for less.Let me know and I can find some better priced solutions(Ebay is great for this BTW)

    Hello

Yes, you will need a unit to convert the Hdmi(Digital) to one of the analog connections for your TV.
It will go something like AppleItv(HDMI)-Converterbox-(Analog component conx)TV. The audio could still be run unconverted from the Apple ITV to your home theater reciever. You will just have to set it as the output on the Itv.

The new Itv will run in 720P only anyways so you really should not be loosing anything when it is converted to a analog signal. 720P is still a great looking picture don't let anybody fool you. You will need a component conection after it is converted or in some cases a PC connection will also look good if you have a spare

I hope I answered your question.Let me know if you have any other questions I can help with

No picture, no sound, but has power light...any suggestions? thx in advance

Do this first:

1: Check the antenna/cable connections.

2: Press the TV/VIDEO on the remote control or the TV to view a signal coming from another device connected to your TV, such as a VCR or
video disc player. You can select ANT 1,
VIDEO 1, VIDEO 2, VIDEO 3, ColorStream HD1, ColorStream HD2, or ANT 2 depending on which input jacks are used for connecting the devices.

*Be sure you have the right source to view video.

Try the above and post back before I can say there is a problem with your unit. If you have the user manual it's a good time to get it out. If you don't have it let me know and I will give you a link to obtain it. Good luck!!

Toshiba TN55X Convergence problem.

You brought up an issue that we hadn't considered. Shortly after hooking up our TV to the receiver with a composite video, our convergence which wacko. My hubby replaced the 2 ICs, but now our power button just flashes red, with no picture. Not sure if new ICs are faulty or if it's another issue. He will replace old ICs to see if problem still exists with turning on the tube. And he'll try disconnecting the video signal to see if problem exists.

Ouch.. may have to consider another tv thanks to new technology ??????

Good luck solving your problem.

Very common problems with this TV set. Toshiba even has a technical bulliten on this and several other models of tV set. The negitve terminal of C809 and C810 need to be soldered, as there are no eyeletes in the printed circuit board. This problem could also take out the fuse, F860. Replace if necassary. Good Luck
