The fans change speed depending on the temperature the sensors detect.
Give your machine a thourough cleaning.
The CPU sensor is usually located under the CPU if it's loaded with dust it may think it's hotter then need be and kicks the fan up.

Sir, my sony vgn cs100E laptop fan is not working, i keep my laptop very clean, but now when i start windows the laptop automatically shutdown after 3 min processing. Fan is not working. what should i do?...

Hello Faiz

OK, the thing is, if the fan is not rotating at all, you will need to replace it. The problem related to the computer shutting down, is the fact that the CPU overheats, and then shuts down the computer to protect the system components.

SO, if the fan actually rotates, you will need to clean the fan from all the dust particles collected on it. If the fan does not rotate at all, you will need to replace the broken fan.

Hope this can be of help.

Kind regards
Andrea

the bios monitors the processor Temperature and increases fan speed if its gets hot. I recommend, get a can of air and blow out the processor's heat sink, as it could be getting dirty and preventing air flow for cooling. otherwise you have some software that running the CPU at a high rate for a long period of time. Use control +alt +Del then switch to task manager, if you click on the CPU heading it will order the tasks by CPU usage, look for the ones that are at the top of the list. note:system idle process should always be way up there 95-100% CPU, this on is OK. all else look into. you can "end task" one the offensive one and look up more details on the web about that application. I look forward to your comments. Thanks

I just bought a cooling pad Logitech n100. The usb-cable is connected correctly to my notebooks (I tried it with 2 Dell laptops, the Inpiron 640m and the Latitude E6500), but .I don't see the fan spinning

Hi Andries, I would suggest to try on different usb ports, but you've already did on two laptops and i don't think possible all of their ports are not working.
I can say that the N110 is often thought not to be working because it's really really quiet and as for keeping low consumption levels the fan doesn't move a big deal of air, so it may seems switched off also if it's working. Anyways, if you double check and see it's completely off don't waste your time (also because there are NO switches on it, it's supposed to work instantly when you plug it) the only thing you can do is to bring it back to your retailer and get a new one or ask for a refund. Regards, Peter

The cooling fan racing is a symptom of a No Post state in the Motherboard. The Power LED and diagnostic LED indications would be helpful in resolving your issue. If the power LED is flashing Amber, the power supply is suspect, solid Amber points to the motherboard or something connected to it. The DIAG LEDs 1234 on the front or ABCD on the back give more specific information.

Initial Impression, is motherboard failure, post the DIAG and Power LED indications for more exact diagnosis

I have a dell Dimension 8400. The cooling fan

Hi:
Your cpu might be getting too hot...
If you have not done so, it would be a good idea to get some quality thermal compound, such as Arctic Silver, and carefully remove your heatsink/fan, clean the surface of your cpu, and the bottom of the heat sink, and re apply an even, thin coat of thermal paste. Reattach the heatsink/fan assembly, and reboot the computer. On start up, enter the BIOS and check the hardware monitor to see what the cpu temp is..Hopefully you will have it running cooler than it was.

Some fans are automatically temperature-controlled -- they speed up, and, of course, make more noise, as the temperature rises.

Background tasks, such as Windows Automatic Update and scheduled virus-scans, can cause the computer to become "busy" when otherwise "sitting unused".

Next time the noise increases, enter CTRL-ALT-DELETE and open "Task Manager", and click the "Performance" tab, to see if the CPU-usage is reaching 100%. Click the "Processes" tab, and then click on the 'CPU' column-heading, and click it a SECOND time, so that Windows lists the "top" consumers of CPU at the top of the list of processes. Which process is consuming the majority of the CPU?

I'd seize the opportunity to get a new cheap cooler, as it can also extend the life of the PC.

If not you're in for either some DIY soldering or asking Dell for another clip.

Hi,
All the factory fitted CPUs are having such heat sinks as previously u were having.
Check on the backside there will be small plastic covers where screws fit these could be removed by screw driver but u can purchase that heat sink or can use previous heatsink as well if it is working.
