Question about Ruud UAMB Air Conditioner

1 Answer

I recently had a new coil installed in my RUUD UAMB036JAZ home central airconditioning unit. Since the repair, I have difficulty in getting the temperature as low as I could prior to repair, and I have difficulty in getting the humidity below 60.

Did you have an opinion on the inability to maintain lwer humidity? I appreciate all of the possibilities you listed. . .is there any way to minimize the list so I can go back to the repair company?

How can I get the specs on the proper replacement coil for my unit? I'd like to be able to address that detail when I discuss this with repair company.

All of this shows that the unit doesn't run at full potential - the coil was badly installed: there's not enough fluid, the circuit hasn't been properly vacuumed before the fluid was injected, there's a kink in the piping that limits the flow of the fluid, the new coil is more densely packed and the air flow thru it is lower than what it used to be, the fan isn't working properly.
None of these can be fixed by you. The ones that installed you the new coil gave you a warranty - use it, make them fix their own mistakes.

Lowering the humidity is done by running the unit at a very high setting on the compressor and low setting on the fan - the air is forced thru the very cold fins of the evaporator thus condensing the water and lowering the humidity. If the evaporator isn't cool enough the water from the air will not be cooled enough to condensate in the short time it passes thru the evaporator so the humidity will remain high.

Same cause, the unit isn't running at full power. Call the company that installed it.

Sorry, i don't have the parts manual, i just provide the model number and the bosses order it directly to the manufacturer. My guess is that they did it the same way so i really doubt that they installed the wrong coil, they just installed it wrongly.

Coils in my new aircondition system are corroding and test tell me that it is sulfur dioxide this a new home with out anyone living in it....could it be bad copper????there is a crematory real close????

I doubt that it is bad copper. It could be outgassing from the crematorium. you can get a coil cleaner spray, but that doesn't explain what caused it in the first place.

I am requesting an owners manual for My recently installed Ruud Air Handler unit Model # RHPN-HM3624JC Thank You

The right path for getting this manual is from the installers as it is a requirement by law for this to be left with the home owner. Is it a new unit ? If not then there is a couple sources for manuals. Such as calling RUUD customer support. contact info at at

2.5 RUUD AC not working, power must be getting to the unit.

Have them turn the outdoor unit off and wait a few minutes. When they turn it back on they should here
the fan and the compressor come on. They are to different sounds.

If they think that they have both come on, tell them to check the black insulated suction line. it should at least cold to the touch. If not it could be a freon issue.

If the line does get cold, have them checkthe filter in the house. If that is ok tell them to turn the power off
to the outside unit. Take a garden hose and wash
the outside coils on the outdoor unit,be carefull not to
smash the fins. Wash them at an angle from top to bottom.

There is no filter (was not installed) in the bottom of my unit (inside) air handler.... Why not? Now I am having problems...could this by why???

The new rheem and Ruud units have to have a filter rack installed in the unit. If it is an older unit the rack is inside the unit. You need to pull bottom cover of unit. I do not know why the new units do not com with filter racks and I have asked the distributor this question.Rusty

RUUD Central Air/Heat Pump

Start with the simplest first it,s not fun but it's necessary EVERY TIME. Clean your evaporator and condenser coil, change your air filter. Getting to the evap. coil is often a real headache and a result doesn't get done often. When its clogged as you probably know the refrigerant can't absorb heat at the coil so it tries to absorb heat on the way to the compressor freezing the hot gas line the safety circuits that protect the heat pump compressor from getting liquid refrigerant back to the compressor almost immediately will take the compressor of line (looking somewhat like a defrost cycle). I hope this helps it's a tough repair GL!
