I have a gateway sx2840 and have tried to download a disc but cannot open the slot to put in the disc. I have pushed the button on the right but the holder does not slide out. HELP!!

Unfortantly if the manual eject will not work then there is something wrong with the eject system on the drive and this can not be fixed.

If you are still in warranty I would call Gateway for an RMA. However if not in warranty you can buy a replacement drive for your computer for less than $50 at your local computer part suppler and still get the options to do DVD burning.

The thing to keep in mind is do you have a PATA or SATA ROM drive. If you computer was built in the last year then it could have a SATA based ROM drive. The link below talks about hard drives but it help you tell if you have a PATA or SATA drive. You will want to get the same type to replace the one that is in your computer.

Note I could not find if you computer had a standard size ROM drive or not. If the drive is a mini drive that would be in a Notebook computer let me know and we can address this a different way.

How to reset to factory defaults


Your question is not accurate. IF you mean how to do a complete system re-image to your hard drive, you must check the manual that came with your computer. Usually you press an FKey as the system boots and that enters you into the system restore menu. If you don't have a manual, try the Gateway website, Downloads, for a copy you can download. Hopefully they have one posted, but no guarantees.

How do I remove the back of my Gateway ZX6971-UR30P. I have a cd stuck in the disc drive and the door won't open.


Have you tried to use a straightened out paper clip to eject the disc. You should see a small hole next to the eject button on the disc drive, just push the paper clip in that and the drive door should open.

My disc is stuck in the system


There is no need to open up the console! Get someone to hold the PS3 upside down (so the disc slot is facing down) then get 2 butter knives insert them carefully one on the left and one on the right of the disc slot. Now gently push the knives away from eachother so that the one on left goes left and the one on the right goes right. You will feel them push the brackets that hold the disc in. As you push the brackets you will release the mechanism that holds the disc in and it should just drop out. I did this with mine when my little boy decided to put a credit like card in it!

I can help you get the disc out as for the repair I can;t help as I'm in the UK!

I have a gateway 300s desktop and the port for the ethernet cable is not working, but i dont know how to open up the computer to put in another port


ok if you look at the front of your computer there is a little slot right below the cd-rom drive that is actually a button you can push to enable you to slide off the cover of the cpu
