Question about Acer TravelMate 212TX Notebook

1 Answer

My (older) TravelMate 212TX has problems with some keys from the keyboard. I found links that it had to do with the battery and adapter: Disconnecting the adapter and then dismount the battery would (OTHERS) have helped. However ME not!! First: Without a battery in, it will not work with only the mains adapter (however it looks like it does at others). Putting the battery in again, leaves with with the old problem: not all characters are taken. Please advice and many thanks in advance.

This at a basic level is more likely to be due to someone spilling a cup of coffee over the keyboard,In which case try to remove ,gently and clean under the keyboard,Wash plastic parts in a weak solution of detergent and replace .dont force any keys or they will break

Thank you 'snake', I'll try that later. Right now I am able to use the laptop with an external keyboard and am currently installing XP on it since I couldnot remember anymore the 2000 password.
I didnot try an external KB before since I read of the funny behaviour I encountered and the circumvention to that on other trouble reports on the net. But once my installation is finished I will dismount the KB and give it a nice cleanup. If that wouldnot help I will look for an other KB on eBay.
    Thanks again.

Change cmos battery

The fact that the Acer User Guide for the TravelMate series refers to to the delaer or an authorized service center tells me that the battery is most likely soldered to the mainboard. With the board being a multi-level board and having extremely narrow traces, it is likely that, unless you are an accomplised electronics tech, you'll damage the mainboard in attempting to remove and re-solder the battery yourself.

Many manufacturers are now using solder-in-place coin or wafer cells that have welded mounting tabs for soldering to the board. While this approach makes it harder for the do-it-yourselfer, it saves board real estate and reduces the component height by eliminating the cell holder.

I wish I could tell you that it's a simple job, but I really believe that I'd be steering you wrong if I did.

I have an acer travelmate 212tx. it has an ethernet port in the back but when i try to connect to the internet with a wired connection it says that none can be detected. how do i remedy this?

If you take you ethernet cable from the back of your laptop and plug straight into your router
that should access the internet immediately

If you are trying to ge a t wireless connection from your router then have you checked that you have enabled the wireless switch on your laptop

im not sure but the switch could be over on the far left of the keyboard probably have a small picture that looks like a mini satellite dish

I have fractions on my keyboard, how do i get them on my screen?

It's either a Shift+ the key with the character you want to print or an FN(The Fn Key)+ the key that has the character you want to print. This assumes your drivers for that keyboard are actually loaded in the OS you are using and the OS recognizes the special keys. These are not normal keys.

Where can I find instructions on HOW TO open my Acer TravelMate 212TX (210 Series) notebook? I need to replace my keyboard or at least have to check/inspect connections. After cleaning my keyboard on/from...

You have no ideea what the problem is, but there is a problem.... so you say. I can see that you have not any ideea abou what is inside one notebook, let alone repairing one. Let it be done by someone who know (at least about how to open and close the unit), else you can not only destroy it, but you can loose also informations and data from inside.

Acer Travelamte 515 TE cmos battery replacement

All older laptops have the CMOS/RTC battery under the keyboard and usually not in easy access as laptop theft was an issue from day one (password reset). After the keyboard is lifted then either look to the front or rear for two little twisted wires connecting the battery to the motherboard. Some older laptops even have two. And since Acer is a less than supportive manufacturer with a perpetually busy website you might even try looking on EBay for a parts only offering that shows pictures of the motherboard.

Keyboard not working on acer travelmate 2350

it could be the sensors are damaged under the keys, but hopefully its just the driver. Right click on my computer icon and click properties and then the hardware tab, then device manager and look down the list for keyboard. Click the + sign and then right click on your keyboard under that and select uninstal. Restart the notebook and it will reinstall itself and hopfully work as it should do, if not then the keyboard itself is damaged in some way.
