Since laptops usually don't have a separate number keypad, the keys you mention (u,i,o,p) will type numbers if you hit a special key first, like fn,

Sounds as if you have some sort of function lock turned on. Look around at your CapsLock, Numlock, Function Lock lights and see if indeed your function lock is on. I bet you have numbers printed in blue on the sides of your keys.

Keyboards are cheap- thats what I would do first, just to narrow it down. Get a new keyboard for about 10-15-20 bucks-plug it in, any change?

If it fixes it, throw out your old keyboard. If it DOESN'T fix it, you can return the new keyboard and get your money back. Then you will KNOW it is software in the computer, or maybe a USB/driver.

Hope this helps.

The num lock key controls letters on regular keyboard.

Let Number key stay off then you could use normal 1234567890 that is between QWERTYUIOP and F1-F12

Laptop keyboard on lifebook c, replace or fix

It looks like you answered your own question - you really can't fix a laptop keyboard, but you can replace them. (or you can use an external keyboard)

Now is your problem:?
Letters qwert, asdfg, zxcvbn work OK but uiop displays as 456/ jkl displays as 123 and m displays as 0. Other keys also do not display correctly. Or holding the function key down at the same time as the problem keys ?

Then the solution is:
The problem was caused by accidentally pressing the num lock key. Once pressed, it remains locked even after a reboot. Pressing again returns the keyboard to normal.

Number pad

There is a Fn key on the bottom left of the keyboard and a num lock key at the top right of the keyboard (depending on the model) Hold the Fn key and then press the num lock key, that should fix your problem.
