Question about Fisher Paykel EcoSmart GWL15

1 Answer

I have the Fisher & Paykel EcoSmart GWL15 toploading washer. The machine will not drain. When it's ready to go into the rinse cycle, it doesn't kick over into drain mode. It sounds like it's trying to kick over electronically - every 10 seconds, I can hear what sounds like an electronic switch trying to activate but it fails. (The drain pump never activates.) After 5-10 minutes of trying, it quits. The machine starts beeping and the 3rd wash light, 1st rinse light, and spin light all go on. The lid lock light goes off. Pressing either the power or lid lock button will turn the machine off. I've unplugged the machine to try and reset it that way but it doesn't help. Any thoughts? Thanks - Lisa

    Hi Luisa,

Your solution worked temporarily. By loosening the fan, I was able to get the machine working to drain the water and complete the cycle. I then washed a new load and had no problems. Then I went to wash a second load and ran into the same problem as before. And this time, the pump won't kick in even though I did manage to free the fan and it is spinning. I'm ready to call a repair man. Any thoughts? Thanks.

Hi just read your posting. Now from the information in your posting the lights that are lit, starting from left to right are the 3rd, the 6th and the 8th,is this correct. If it is correct then the fault on machine is called PUMP BLOCK ERROR.Now 1st thing to do is to bail some of the water by hand with a small pot or bucket, enough to lean the machine back so you can look under the machine. When you are able to look under the machine look to the front right and you should see a black fan. This is your pump.Turn the fan clockwise and anticlockwise a few times to loosen the pump. The fan should turn freely. Then put the machine back upright and select a spin cycle. The machine should start draining. Please reply back on how you went or if you have the newer style of pump or if the machine stills does not drain.

Hi just read your posting. Now I think it is time to remove the pump and see if any thing is jamming it.First get under the machine and look at the pump.Remove the green earth wire and the other wires in a terminal block on the pump.Once the wires are removed to remove the pump you must turn it anticlockwise. Now you will also see a plastic locking tab preventing you from turning the pump anticlockwise.Pull the tab away from the pump and then turn the pump anticlockwise and it come away from the machine.Check to see if the there is anything jamming the pump and if there is remove it and put the pump back by turning it clockwise until the locking tab clicks back in place.Take note of the position of the pump and which slots it goes back to.When the pump is in the correct position the wires will face slightly towards the right hand side of the machine if you are looking at the machine from the front.Replace the wires to the pump and see how you go.Take a photo with a mobile phone or cell phone so you can check how it goes back together.Turn the power off before you work on the pump.Check for corrosion of the pump as this might be affecting the machine as well. Please reply on how you got on or for further help.Looking forward to your reply.

How do I see what is causing my Fisher & Paykel EcoSmart washer to leak water?

If it is leaking when draining this would point to the main seal of the WATER PUMP. (Quite common for older machines.)
The pump can be easily removed by leaning the machine backwards, remove wires and see picture. NOTE: about half a litre of water will gush out so it is best to take machine outdoors. Go to a recycling centre or online auction for a replacement. They can be fiddly to replace.

F&P washer lights on and beeps

Clogged pump stopped up drain. If the washer does not think all water was pumped out in 8 minutes then it shuts down. Slow drain is my first inclination.
