does Kyocera KM 1820 support Vista enviroment? I can't get the scan to computer working.

  • Lee Faile Sep 30, 2008

I have Vista 64 Bit and there are three things that install when I connect the device directly to the USB port. The printer portion, the WIA Driver, and then it can not find drivers for the third item Windows just calls "Kyocera KM-1820". The scanner shows up in the scanners and cameras section of the Control Panel but Paperport, nor any other program sees that the scanner is installed. Brand new machine: Gateway M-6864FX. I am a computer technician but this is driving me nuts. I have downloaded every driver from the Kyocera website including the KM Twain Source Driver v 3.1.1819 and the KM-1820 WIA Scanner Driver for Windows Vista Ver 1.2.0516. However, every program I try to use says there is no TWAIN device installed. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have the exact same problem. Connection is USB. Can also use network. Would love a solution. I have dedicated way to many hours trying to come up with a solution for a problem that existed right out of the box.

Don't plug in the usb cable... and I repeat do not plug in the usb cable. This is me with my boot in your face do not plug in the usb cable. Next unplug any other usb or other silly peripherals except for the mouse and keyboard and monitor. Next delete every virtual usb port from the system that they you are allowed to. Next with your pc now isolated from the network and no usb cable connected install the usb scanner. Install your scanner software. Open up your twain driver and name it. Start your scanner software and you should see your twain driver in the scanner drop down list. (paperport) Go scan something... It should work... if it doesn't restart your pc. if it still doesn't work... delete all printer drivers and virtual usb ports and the twain driver and restart then do a fresh install... it should work then...

Please specify how the machine communicates with computer (network, USB cable, or parallel cable). once this is known I'll be able to tell you how to setup the scanning.

As for the 2nd question, yes this machine does support vista, both 32 and 64 bit

The CS-1820 will NOT scan via usb. The machine must be set up via LAN in order to scan. It scans via SMB protocol. Once set up on the network enter the IP address into internet explorer, click the basic tab and select the address book, and you will see the interface to configure. Sorry hate to be the bearer of bad news.

I am trying to set up my PC which uses Windows XP to be able to scan to a folder from my CS-1820.

Two way to scan to the computer from this model from the USB or the ethernet connection. It depends on how the computer is connected to the computer. If you are connected through the USB than TWAIN scanning is what you will be using. You will need to go to this link to download the driver.

Just copy and paste that link. With Twain scanning you will need a photo edit program to pull the pic into your computer. As for the network scanning using the network port just ask how to scan using the network port that is another beast altogether. Hope this helps.

How do I scan to put the document on the computer?

The easiest way to scan is to use the paper port software the came with the machine. To use this you must be connect by a USB cable to your computer. You will need the Twain driver which comes on the disk that came with the machine. All you have to do is load the Twain driver from the disk and then load paper port. Hope this helps. You don't want to know how to hook up network scan.

Kyocera cs 1820 or copystar = error message = 3200

3200 is a problem with the exposure lamp. If you are in a dirty enviroment, the problem could be dirty mirrors under the scanner glass.

I have a Kyocera CS 1820 copier, scanner, fax machine and I can't figure out how to geet it to scan to pc. I have installed the drivers from the kyocera site and still no luck......

Make sure that you downloaded the correct drivers....Etc... (x64) vs (x86) also make sure you have the proper script # driver ... Etc... #5.1 vs #6. You will want to completely uninstall all the old drivers, shut down your computer --- do not just reboot, reinstall all the new drivers, and after your computer is done rebooting – shut it down and restart. Also make sure that you and the designated file set up on the computer, it needs to know where to scan the document and send it to.

KM-1820 scanner setup

The KM-1820 to scan to PC is using SMB, FTP or e-mail.

for SMB:
I am assuming you have the KM-1820 connected within the network and a static IP address for it.
open any Internet browser and go to KM-1820's IP address.
You should see the Command Centre web page.
Go to Basic page and add/register a contact within the Address Book.
Give a name and at the SMB section field, fill up with your computer hostname or the ip address of your computer where you want to scan. Fill up the user name with the local user name - the one what you are using to get into your computer - or create a new LOCAL user for your PC lets say "kyocera". So for SMB will be your computer and username: kyocera. (You will need a password for that computer user (kyocera) ). Then create a folder "scan" where you want ot receive the scanned files and add "scan" at the path field (SMB section of that webpage - command center).
Now share the folder "scan" as "scan".

if you want you can always use the scan to e-mail !! but you need a smtp server. All the settings can be done using that command center webpage.
