Question about Kenmore 16632 Built-in Dishwasher

Open Question

The standard procedure to start the machine is to select a cycle (normal, dry heat, etc) then press the start key. Currently when I select the cycle and the cycle LED is on, pressing the start key does not start the machine. I can press cancel, then start and then choose the cycle and it will work. Also, if I first press the start key, the machine will start and the previous wash cycle selection LED will light up and that cycle will run. Do I have a problem with the keypad or the control board or can it be reset?

Sounds like the electronic controls (smart card) are acting up. Try shutting off the power at your fuse box or shut off the circuit breaker for 1 minute them turn the power on again. This fix quite often works on electronic appliances.

there is no real way of checking the keypad. Not with a meter but if you push normal wash for example and it does not respond this usually means that you have a bad keypad

It sounds like you just need to reset the controller. This is done by running (or partially running) a diagnostic cycle, which will clear the error. Here's how to do it: Depending on the model, and the keys you have, press the following sequence of keys quickly (with less that 1 second between key presses:
Heated Dry - Normal - Heated Dry - Normal; or
High Temp - Air Dry - High Temp - Air Dry; or
Hi Temp Scrub, Energy Saver Dry, Hi Temp Scrub, Energy Saver Dry; or
High Temp Wash, Heated Dry, High Temp Wash, Heated Dry.
You will know that you have entered the diagnostic cycle when all the lights light up. Let it run for a few minutes, and then press Cancel to stop the diagnostic cycle and clear the error.

Note: On some of the newer Whirlpool, Kenmore, KitchenAid dishwashers, you start the diagnostic cycle by rapidly pressing the 3 left-most keys in the following sequence: 1 2 3, 1 2 3, 1 2 3.

Try this diagnostic cycle operation to reset.

To start the Service Diagnostics Cycle, press the
following keys, in order, in less than 6 seconds, while in standby(power on but unit off):
Heated Dry, Normal, Heated Dry, Normal
To Rapid advance one interval at a time, press the Start key, noting that
unlike Standard cycles, the Diagnostics Cycle automatically resumes
after door openings and does not require pressing Start to resume.

Once the diagnostic cycle has run and shut off, run a normal wash cycle, empty and with no detergent, to reset the control to factory "normal" operation. Make sure there's plenty of hot water.

Electrolux dishwasher in locked mode

Good Afternoon David - When the light is on, the control is locked and no cycles can be selected or started. To de-select the Control Lock, press and hold the heat dry key or press down on the lock icon for approximately twenty seconds. If issue persists, you may reset the dishwasher by either unplugging it or flipping the household circuit breaker off. Wait approximately ten minutes and turn the unit back on. The dishwasher should resume to normal operations.

My dryer will spin and then stop spining reading err68 or err4a what can this mean.

E4A = The drying time has exceeded program time for cycle. Press Pause Cancel and SELECT buttons for 6 seconds to exit test modes. Position cycle selector to NORMAL, temperature selector to HIGH HEAT and touch START. Check for any thing that would extend dry times such as: no heat, restricted vent, blower fan blade broken or loose, dryer installed in closetwith solid door, or bad connection in moisture sensor bar cir cuit or dirty bars. If dryer operates normally but code returns, replace electronic control.
68 = One of the keys (buttons) is stuck closed (active). Enter function testmode and perform key (button) test to determine which button is at fault. Carefully free the and perform the test again. If button is free but the key struck code still exists, replace electronic control

There are a couple of possible ways to reset the board. Pressing the keys HEATED DRY - NORMAL - HEATED DRY - NORMAL. I forget how many times, but all the lights should come on and it will do a diagnostic cycle.
It may work with the HI TEMP SCRUB, ENERGY SAVER DRY, HI TEMP SCRUB, ENERGY SAVER DRY keys depending on the machine.
I don't remember if the door is closed or open when entering the sequence. Try both.
