Hi, Does this happen when you print or only when you make copies / scan? BD

  • gadindc Sep 08, 2010

it happens when I print and make copies. I've also have found pices of material (looks like tape, brown on one side and grey on the other side) inside the printer. No idea where they are coming from. Could it be the fuser?

Yip, its fuser film alright. You could pick up a fuser unit / kit from:

http://www.printersupplies.com/c-Laserjet3015Parts.html

and fix it yourself using the manual in this post:

Best of luck

Start printing a few pages. When the 1st sheet feeds 1/2 way in, open the cover, pull out the toner and look down at the paper. Does it have a grey streak on the side of the page? If yes, change the cartridge. If no it's probably the fuser.

Testimonial: "Tried your solution and there was no streak. Switched toner cartridges and still had the same problem. So it miust be the fuser."

Those pieces of plastic that you are seeing is the stuff that the cover the fuser rollers with. You should have mentioned that in your original question. Good luck

I am having some very large, consistent streaks that just run across some of the top of my pages. If I print or copy out 20 pages only three or four will have this streak. It looks more like a stamping...

Sounds as though the fixing film assembly ( FM2-1793-020 ) in the fuser has developed a build up of toner causing what is normally called offset. You may also have to replace the lower pressure roller ( FC5-7207-010 ) also. You will have to remove the right side covers, door, and then the fuser assembly. Rebuilding the fuser has some challenges until you've done it a couple of times. Good Luck.

The is blocked by dust on the side of the paper on the image unit that would have color associated with the print. Remove all the image units and clean all the laser glass. Replace those image units also if streaking as for the paper ensure correct paper side and media type.

This is more than likely down to the upper roller in the fuser assembly. It's the heat roller at the back of the printer. The upper roller wears so paper dust and toner stick to the roller which then can get deposited back on to the page.

Printer prints a black streak down the reverse side

You have a build up of ink inside the printer. I had a Canon that did this. I had to take the ink & print head out, and tear a paper towel strip 1 " wide and 13" long or however long the paper towel is. I folded it in half down the length so it was 1/2x13. Then used a plastic strip to shove it under the part the print head sits in. Once I got the towel to the other side, I grabbed it with my hand. I removed the plastic strip used to shove the paper towel under. So now the paper towel sticks out both sides underneath the print head cradle. I gently pull the paper towel back and forth so the paper towel can clean off the ink build up. Hope this helps.

Lines down both the left side of the printouts.

good day,

this usually occurs when you print large volume of copies of documents that goes beyond the printable area of the paper, some powders stick in the roller of your printer hence making the gray streak.

you can check if the rollers have accumulated some powder, if so, have the rollers cleaned.

i hope this will help.

2 IN. GRAY AREA DOWN SIDE PAPER

There are several things that can cause this. A worn toner cartridge and/or transfer roller can cause vertical smears, but it may also be a worn fuser assembly. The teflon coating on the fixing (heat) roller wears off, and leaves vertical streaks of varying widths on the pages. Sometimes you may see "ghost" images on the pages for the same reason. Open the back door of the printer, and hold down the exit guide on the fuser (carefull, it may be very hot). There are two long rollers, the lower one is black, the upper roller is either grey or shiny brown. That's the teflon coating. See if it's peeled or damaged. If so, replace the fuser assembly.
