Question about HP L1906 19" LCD Monitor

2 Answers

I'm running a J6450 to a router to serve two Macs & a Dell, part ethernet, part wifi (to the router). This set-up worked fine for months until the router died. I've re-set the LAN as all ethernet/hard-wired router (a set-up that also worked in the past), but can get none of the computers to see the printer. The scanner responds with a little woosh, but no functional connection results. I've tried many HP troubleshooting routines, all combinations of computer & printer re-boots, driver-deletes/purges, driver reinstalls from HP online to no avail. And now there are no HP drivers on the Dell's Printers/Faxes menu. Please offer sure-fire alternatives for diagnosis & restoration. Thanks, Donni Richman

This is NOT a problem with a monitor. The monitor issue was last week's problem

I understand how your recommendation could solve the problem, however, here's more info about the failure behavior that might shed more light on the entire situation. Recently, I have replaced the failed router with both a new wireless router and then an ethernet one. Neither communicated with the printer, although all other internet and LAN communications worked.
If the hard reset is still the best solution, please tell me how to execute this procedure.

    Thx, DR

My computer environment is: Windows XP Pro, Mac OS 10.5+ & Mac OS 10.6.4.
The router arrangement is: an Xsense Palm Router with a Netgear DS106 for additional ports needed. This is all ethernet hard-wired.
Can you taylor your recommendations to these?

    Thx, DR

In regards to the PC side if you want to beable to use a shared printer you need to have printer and file sharing turned on. Also it is a good idea to have ICMP opened in your firewalls so the devices can talk to each other. The links below will help you do this.

How to enable and disable printer and file sharing in Windows 7

How to allow ping (ICMP Echo) request through Windows 7 Firewall

If you would like help with your router let me know the make and model and I will look at the settings on it.

When a router goes out you can usually restore them to factory by doing a hard reset Thijs reloads the operatings system from rom and will clear out any corrupted routing tables and other issues. Usually just resetting the router settings won't fix the problem.

I would do the hard reset. reconfigure it. Then look for any OS upgrades from the support site. You can either do this from the router or save the updates to a drive and browse for it and load from the router. Lastly is most home grade routers do not take well to repairs. Even if the reset etc seems to fix it, they usually will fail again fairly quickly. Usually the wifi shows disconnects and other quick little symptoms but eems to function fairly normally. It ay then seem to slow down and show more and more errors before finally dieing on you. Normally you see this start anywhere from 6 month to about a year old. Always seems to be the day after the warrenty is up.

Anyway these are not expensive and other than the hard reset and up grade there is nothing else to fix on these. Try those but keep and eye out for a sale and plan on replacing it.

You can do a reset on the router to make a factory settings. On the back of the router you can look for a small hole usually with the word reset.Press it for 20 secs with the router on but disconnected from the Ethernet cable.Start up your PC and surf to the router Web UI (192.168.***) and make your settings.

DIR-615 wireless router not installing

You setup the router with the Ethernet cable always plugged in.. UNTIL you are finished configuring through the Ethernet cable via your browser. Once WiFi SSID & passwords WEP/WAP has been finished, AND you had another WiFi card in that PC the Ethernet cable was also connected to... well, THEN, I guess THEN, you may be able to disconnect the router from PC & then connect it again Wirelessly. But whats the point? But until then you won't find your router ON the Ethernet port, it would then be trough the WiFi adapter.. and that would have to be activated to work. Hope this clears things up

Is the belkin f5d7230-4 for macs

Hi! Absolutely, the Gateway Router is OS independent. All you need is a computer with a properly configured Ethernet LAN adapter and a web browser to configure the Gateway Router. Any platform that supports Ethernet & TCP/IP is compatible with the router. You may need to provide additional hardware & software (i.e. Ethernet cards and/or software drivers) to ensure that all clients operate with the router.

I use the D-Link DI-704p router for an ethernet Lan with 8 Macs. Fast in the morning, horribly slow up/downloads in afternoon. Output runs at half speed of input from provider when tested in afternoon.

access your router with following link

http://192.168.1.1
or
http://192.168.0.1

type user name as "admin" and password as "admin" or blank or "password"

then go to wi fi advanced then check signal channel type 4 , 6, 11 are working fine try 1 by 1 theses channel then check.
Set channel which give most high speed.
When you set channel always save settings then restart computer and router both after save settings then check.
Thanks for using fixya.

Problems setting up new macs and a new wireless system with a PC

The MAC address of the network card on the PC is probably registered with Tiscali. The easiest thing to do is to Connect the Belkin router to the internet, then go into the config and clone the MAC address of the windows PC. Once this is done, then you can either plug in the airport express, or configure wifi for the Macs from the belkin.

Probably you used the wrong type of ethernet cable, a crossover one. Try another Ethernet cable but this time a straight one.

Connection problem between modem router and hub

Sounds like you may need what is called a "Crossover Cable' connecting your router to your hub, or if either device has an uplink port, use it on one device to connect to normal port on other device. Here are instructions for making your own cables: http://www.lanshack.com/make-cat5E.aspx
