Hi there, this is not a motherboard issue, this is a blu ray lens issue. When they become faulty they refuse to read discs hence the loading sign and nothing happening. It is attempting to read the disc but cannot. You can purchase blu ray drives for around £60 off of ebay or you could buy a faulty PS3 that the blu ray drive is good on and use that, usually they sell for around £50.
If it will load dvds but not games then the blu-ray laser is bad.
If it cannot read anything then the drive is bad and needs to be replaced.
You can buy replacement parts on ebay, but they are a bit pricey.
It's a Sony
defect with the blu-ray lasers. They only last 1-3 years with average
use. If your PS3 is less than a year old and you still have the
original receipt Sony will repair the problem for free. Otherwise
they're going to charge you $150 for the repair. You can reach them at:
Unless you have a technical background in
electronics there's nothing I would suggest doing. A firmware update
and or CD /DVD cleaner disk will do nothing for your problem. I've
fixed more than 100 PS3's with this exact problem so I know exactly
what I'm talking about.
If you're just out of warranty by a few days sometimes Sony will do a courtesy repair. It doesn't hurt to ask.
If you can't hear the disc spin it means that the lens is gone.
Purchase a mechanism KES-400 AAA and replace it (if you do not have warranty). If the disc spins and does not load it might be the blu ray board. I have one with the same issue and I don't know how to pair a new board with the existing motherboard.
Sounds like a faulty/dirty/bad laser. Call sony 1-800-345-SONY (7669) ask them what they can do! Normally its at least 168$ charge to get your ps3 back in order unless you are willing to open it up yourself.. if so let me know I can help you find parts and help you fix it.. parts are not to expensive but in the long run it may be better to either sell it as broke or send it in!
Either way you need new parts to fix it so its up to you there is not a solution that is free on this fix! I do buy broken ps3's and can get you a deal on used or new systems!
