Question about Goodman CLJ30AR32 Air Conditioner

1 Answer

I need help in knowing what type of thermostat to purchase for our home. We have the old manual setting type now and when we set the temp to 72, the temp shows 68 but the real temp would be like 74 by a separate thermometer. It is located in the hallway. I pretty sure we have a split system. We have the return and coil unit under then home (which I hate) and I suppose the the unit outside would be heat pump? We have a 2.5 ton goodman outside for approx1900 sq ft. Is this enough for this house. Can someone help or explain what this system does and what type of thermostat I need to buy. We would like to have one that can be programed. THANKS

Thermostat does not reach programmed temperature

Have you checked with a thermometer to see if the area is reaching the temp you have it set at? A thermostat has nothing to do with the temp in your house. If you have it set at a temp for Example ( 72 ) and it is not reaching that temp to shut off then you have a problem with your unit or insulation in house. If you set stat on cool at 72 and the house gets down lower than 72 then there is a problem with stat.

Double check to see that you do have in fact, the correct thermostat. I have found a chart that shows that the differential is all over the board. There is a way to adjust these thermostats but is very time consuming and if you are not a refrigeration tech, you may struggle with the procedure.

therostats have what is known as off-set deflection , or simplely put the plus or minus of the temp range which the heat turns on or off this setting is adjustable on many thermostats i usually set for 3 degrees if it is set for 1 or 2 it will run all the time refer to owners manual to see how to set this in program

Thermostat will not let us program the cooling past 72 we have tried to move the temporary setting also useing the hold temp button and pushing the decrease key, it seem to be locked at 72

you need to get into the installer settings to lower the minimum setpoint. look up your model online and try that. Otherwise you may have an older style auto changeover type t sat in which case you should still look up the manual and reprogram from the installer configs. or try buying a new one

Honeywell RTH230B a/c problem

if you set the thermostat on 70 and your house won't get ant cooler than 72, there is a problem with your system, not your stat. I'm thinking you are low on refrigerant if it is somewhat working. when the unit is running, if you can get your hand on the larger refrigerant line under the black insulation, it should be cold, about 55 degrees.

Short cycling

There are a few reasons why your furnace is restarting after it reaches temp. and shuts off. First, if you have a mercury bulb thermostat it needs to be level and the heat anticipator needs set properly. If you have an electronic thermostat then you need to make sure the DIP switch settings inside are set properly for propane. If you have a digital thermostat there are also settings to be made for your type of heating. These settings will be explained in the thermostat installation instructions. Also, Make sure your furnace filter is clean. If this does not help then there are some other things to check which may need to be done by a technician depending on your mechanical aptitude. Hope this helps!

Ultrastat Thermostat

70 to 72 degrees maximum surely now we are all supposed to be pulling together to save our planet???

I suggest you download the instructions for your type of thermostat. If the thermostat doesn't work per instructions it is obviously faulty.
You could contact Honeywell for advice over such an important matter.
