Hi there, would you have any advice about fixing my wireless on my compaq presario v6000. The computer is 12 months old and had working wireless internet when it was given to me, however when the wireless stoped working i was told by a friend that i need a repair cd for my computer, which i dont have.
The internet options does not detect wireless settings on my laptop also which has made the prosess or reparing alot harder. Bluetooth is working fine but the options of wireless have gone.
So thats the problem and i hope i can fix the comp somehow without finding the cds?

There should be another adapter available. The two you mentioned are not your primary wireless connection.
The device will usually have 802.11g/a/b or something similar in it's name. It might also say Intel PRO/Wireless.
I assume you are uninstalling it because it is malfunctioning. The task you are performing can sometimes fix whatever the problem might be, but in the case that it doesn't, I would recommend downloading the most recent driver for the wireless adapter Driver for XP - 32 bit
that might take an uninstall and reinstall of either the ethernet drivers, or the operating system. I haven't heard that, but I have had machines that aren't as reliable in the wireless as they could be. it's possible that something in the workings of it has gone haywire, but it sounds like an OS issue.
Back up everything you want to keep and reinstall the OS if possible.
If you are using Compaq Presario V6000 series Notebook, your notebook should be having a Wireless Network Adapter by default.
However, HP had identified a hardware issues with certain notebooks which also includes Compaq Presario V6000 series Notebooks for which it is offering free mail in repair for Notebooks that are currently available and purchased in US and Canada.
If your Notebook is installed with AMD Processor, purchased and currently available in US or Canada, you need to find out the Product Number of the Notebook whcih can be located printed on a white sticker at the bottom of the Notebook indicated with P/N and try if it is listed among the Product Numbers that are listed in the link below or not:
If the Product Number of your Notebook is listed in the link above, you need to contact HP Chat Support to get free mail in repair service.
You can find more details about this service offered by HP from the link below :
usually all drivers for Compaq and HP computer systems (portable and non-portable) can be found on the HP support website (Click here to go to it), simply go there, chose your region, than your country, enter your model number (not the series, the model number, you would usually find it on the service tag, or wherever you would find a serial number), but be sure to chose "Download drivers and software (and firmware)", and than chose your operating system. Hope this has helped.
