Check the dampers are not broken/out of oil. These are 4 long rods along the side of the tub that act as shock absorbers. Many times the plastic knuckles will break - rendering the shocks useless.

There are also springs at the bottom of the tub. Check these for damage as well.

The tub continues to go off balance in spin cycle. Starts out smooth then starts to wobble terribly til the UL shows and shuts down. Support rods are good

There is a little device inside the washer that allows the agitator to spin independent of the drum. If this gets stuck, the washer will try to spin the whole drum instead of just the agitator. This will cause the washer to think the load is too large or out of balance, causing the error code. On some Whirlpools this device is just a washer.

The washer did not spin due to continuous inbalance

Check the unbalance sensor, or inertial switch, it should be N.C., or normally closed, giving a "balanced" signal back to the control board. My unit had no continuity even when there was no out of balance, or severe shaking. If you have a voltmeter this can be tested by disconnecting the wires to the sensor and setting the meter to Ohms, it should be very low, 0-5 ohms. If it is higher than this the contacts are bad. I fixed mine by running a small electrical load through the switch, a 100 watt light bulb, with power cord that I rigged up. I shook the sensor several times until the lightbulb had power when the switch was still. This "cleaned" the contacts by running the 100 watts of power through the contacts and creating a spark. Or you could jumper the wires together and see if the unbalance condition goes away; if so, replace the switch.

Thanks for choosing FixYa and welcome to the site. As you already know, that is the reason that it is doing it. You need to check the bottom legs of the washer and make sure none are damaged. Also, I would advise you to get a level tool. By doing this, you will know where the balance is off at. You can add wood slits under the legs to balance them off. Once it is level, you should be good to go.

The pendulum won't continue to swing

This could be for too many reasons. It will not be possible to fix this without taking it to a qualified watch repairer who will be able to take a look and determine the exact fault.

It could be a blockage in the train of wheels.
It could be a broken balance staff or mal-adjusted balance spring.
May be broken palets or mainspring - the list goes on and on.

Find a local trustworthy watch repairer and they will give you a free estimate in most cases.

Best of luck.

Check the Vibration damper rods to be sure that...
1. They are there and mount is solid.
2. If they are broken in 1/2.
3. The plastic knuckle mounts are not missing/broken.
4. There is oil in the shock absorber/spring section of the rods.
Also - there are suspension springs on the bottom of the tub that could be broken and/or missing.
Replace/repair as necessary.

Balancing the washer on the pedestal

Yes, ljharlow,

What is your Question?

You have a problem balancing the washer on the pedestal??
You must first balance the washer and then put it on the pedestal!
I take it you bought and picked up an installed your own machine.
The delivery men know to do the leveling foirsy and then raise them on to the pedestal
If you have two people you can have one person lift the front of the machine by tilting it back wards on the pedestal so the front goes up in the air a little and the second person turns the adjustable legs till it is level! If you laid the washer on its side ,front,or back at any time since you bought it then you threw the machine out of balance and YOU DO need service to correct this situation!!!!!!!

Washer continue to overfill

This is a symptom of a pressure switch malfunction. More than likely, the air hose that attaches to the pressure has come loose and fallen off. If you post back with your brand and model number I can give you advice on how to locate your pressure switch. This is usually a very simple repair, that does not repair any special tools, repairman, or money. That is...as long as the pressure itself isn't bad. You need to do a visual inspection first to make sure.

PS For future reference: Posting your brand and model number makes this problem diagnosis process much quicker as all washers are not the same.
