Question about Mitsubishi WT-42311 42" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

For a few months, the color spectrum would fluctuate from very red to very blue. Recently, after 20-30 minutes of viewing, it randomly goes to an all blue screen (no video or sound) for 10-20 seconds. When I rewind the program and watch again, it does not occur in the same spot. Is this a bulb issue? If so, where do I buy replacements, and how many will there be to replace?

No, it's not a bulb issue - your tv is a CRT one, it has 3 small tubes like those on older tv's, when they fail the image goes dim, not bright. Since you also got a blue screen which signals the fact that the tv doesn't get the signal it means that the mainboard of the tv and all the other stuff connected to it is ok - it's an input problem, the signal doesn't reaches the image processor.
First you should check the tv by plugging something else in it, like a DVD or another player and using a different type of cable (like an S-Video one) . Or use even the antenna - if the image is correct then the fault is in the cable to the recorder (or whatever is the device you are using). If the cable is good then the recorder must be at fault - test it on another tv.
If the image is still bad then the fault is in the connection to the input sockets from the mainboard - take the back of the tv and inspect them all for loose solderings to their pins. I seriously doubt that you will gonna have to change even a single part.

Although I am not sure what this has to do with dryers, the color spectrum of a rainbow runs from purple to yellow. The visible spectrum runs from black to white with ultraviolet and infrared beyond the visible spectrum. Purple, violet, blue, red, orange, and yellow are the colors in a rainbow.

I have color issues no matter how i adjust the color it stays an orange color

You have fluid in all 3 of your picture tubes on that model and the fluid in the Blue and Green has become contaminated just from usage and age. A technician usually charges about $250.00 to 300.00 to replace it. The Red very seldom ever goes bad because it runs the coolest in the spectrum. After that, you'll be good as new.

One or two of your color guns are failing. On a CRT, there are three color guns, Red, Green, Blue. They work together to produce all colors in the spectrum. If the monitor goes all one color, it generally means at least one color gun is failing. The cost to repair far exceeds the value of the monitor or the price of a new LCD panel.

After a few minutes the color goes to intense red and green

My tv didn't turn green, but the red separated significantly. It started off happening after a few minutes of being on (I suppose the defective part was "warming up"), then it got to where it was like that immediately upon turning the tv on. In my case, I had to pay a tv repair man $350 for a new part. There are 2 microcircuits that control the color alignment--one that controls the red only, and the other controlls the other 2 colors, blue and green I believe. Maybe your part is the blue/green controller, mine was red. The repair man said these parts fail so rarely they don't stock the part. The cost of repair may be different for a different part, but either way you have to choose if it's worth that cost to you. If you get rid of it, I'll buy your tv stand ;-), I bought mine from a friend and didn't get the stand in the deal.

Problem with color

Yes you have a problem in the red crt driver board. Most likely the driver transistor is failing. This is a component level repair, so if you have no experience with TV repair, play it safe and call in a trained tech to assist you in this matter. Good Luck
