Question about Compaq Presario X6000 Notebook
I changed my HL DT ST DVD drive in my laptop as it was having an intermittent fault, the new drive is an NEC but also an original from an X6000. Seemed to work fine but when I tried to fresh install Vista the setup got to a point where it said I needed a driver for the CD/ DVD drive to continue. I couldn't sort it out, so put the old drive back and finished the install, then put the new drive back and on booting Vista it installed a new driver, recognising that it was now an nec drive. SHould I flash the Bios with the BIos utility in case I need to reset up my laptop in future? I attempted to do so but Vista would not let me do it with a message that I needed Adminstrative privileges...crazy as I am the administrator and have the only account on the machine...any ideas?
Put a spare hard drive into the machine, installed XP onto it (the original OS for this laptop)...ran the HP bios update in XP and now it recognizes the DVD and is working OK.
